The New York Jets selected safety Antonio Allen out of South Carolina with the 242nd overall pick (7th round) of the 2012 NFL Draft. Allen is 6’1″, 202 pounds and he runs a 4.55 40. Allen is a player who looks really solid at times and lost at others. He has the size and speed to develop into a decent pro football player if he responds well to the coaching the Jets are going to give him. Allen played in 12 games (all starts) for South Carolina last year and he had 88 tackles, 2 passes broken up, 3 interceptions, 4 forced fumbles and 3 fumble recoveries. Allen played in 40 games (31 starts) in his four years with the Gamecocks and he had 198 tackles, 8 passes broken up, 4 interceptions, 6 forced fumbles and 4 fumble recoveries. Allen was a steal for the Jets in the 7th round as he should have been long gone by then.

The New York Jets selected OLB DeMario Davis with the 77th overall pick (3rd round) of the 2012 NFL Draft. Davis is 6’1″, 241 pounds and he runs a 4.68 40. Davis has issues with coverage and he sometimes whiffs on tackles. In his defense, he always played hard and he is very aggressive. Davis played in 13 games for Arkansas State last year and he had 70 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, 4 passes broken up and 1 interception. He played in 48 games in his four years at Arkansas State and he had 230 tackles, 22.5 tackles for a loss, 7 sacks, 6 passes broken up, 4 interceptions (1 returned for a TD), 1 fumble recovery (he returned it for a TD) and 2 forced fumbles. The Jets need help with the pass rush and they are hoping that Davis will give that to them. This was a bit of a reach pick in the 3rd round by the Jets.
