New York Jets (8-7) vs. Miami Dolphins (5-10)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 30 December 2011 at 4:39 pm

The Jets are looking pretty bad right now as they have lost their last two games by a combined score of 74-33!  Now they are going to need a win over the Dolphins and losses by the Bengals, Titans and either the Broncos or Raiders to get into the playoffs.  That is a lot of luck needed.  The Dolphins have won 5 of their last 8 games as they have been playing well lately.  The Jets beat the Dolphins 24-6 in New Jersey earlier this year.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Jets have the ball:  The Jets are likely going to come out throwing the ball against a Dolphins’ D that is allowing 249.8 yards passing per game so far this year.  The Jets are going to have to protect Mark Sanchez for this to work and they are also going to need him to make good decisions with the football.  Dustin Keller, Plaxico Burress and Santonio Holmes are going to have to step up if the Jets are going to win this game.  The Dolphins are only giving up 93.4 yards yards rushing per game and 3.6 yards per carry so far this year, so Shonn Greene is going to have to fight for every yard he gets.  Watch for LaDainian Tomlinson to be the Jets’ secret weapon both running and catching the ball out of the backfield this Sunday.

When the Dolphins have the ball:  The Jets’ front seven is going to have to be ready to deal with the Dolphins’ running game.  Reggie Bush (1,086 yards rushing) and Daniel Thomas (553 yards rushing) are going to be a big time challenge for the Jets to stop as they are giving up 113.0 yards rushing per game and 4.0 yards per carry so far this year.  The Jets are going to have to get after QB Matt Moore as he has been a very efficient game manager type of QB so far this season.  Moore has a decent set of WRs and TEs to throw to, so the Jets’ secondary will need to step up in this game.

PREDICTION:  DOLPHINS 23, JETS 20

New York Jets (8-6) vs. New York Giants (7-7)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 24 December 2011 at 1:32 am

The Jets and Giants both really need this game if they are going to make it to the playoffs in 2011.  The Jets are the designated home team, so they should have more fans than the Giants.  The Jets have won three of their last four games despite getting thumped 45-19 by the Eagles in Philly last weekend.  The Giants got pushed around at home by the Redskins last weekend, 23-10.  The Giants have lost five of their last six games now.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Jets have the ball:  The Jets are going to come out running the ball with Shonn Greene against a Giants’ D that is giving up 127.6 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry so far this year.  If the Jets establish the running game, it will make things easier for Mark Sanchez off playaction.  The Giants have an outstanding pass rush, led by DE Jason Pierre-Paul and his 13 sacks, so Sanchez is going to have to get rid of the ball quickly in this game.  Plaxico Burress, Dustin Keller and Santonio Holmes are going to have mis-matches down the field against a Giants’ secondary that has been getting shredded lately.

When the Giants have the ball:  The Jets’ front seven is going to have to tighten up the chinstraps, because Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw are likely to get a lot of work tomorrow.  The Jets are going to have to get after Eli Manning tomorrow, because he has a knack for making big throws down the field when he has time to throw the ball.  It’s going to hurt him to be without TE Jake Ballard and WR Mario Manningham tomorrow.  The Jets are going to lock CBs Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie on Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz….and those are going to be matchups to watch in this game.

PREDICTION:  JETS 21, GIANTS 20

New York Jets (8-5) vs. Philadelphia Eagles (5-8)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 17 December 2011 at 5:54 pm

The New York Jets have won three games in a row as they are rolling right now.  This is a big game for the Jets as long as the playoff picture is concerned.  The Eagles looked pretty good in beating the Dolphins 26-10 in Miami last weekend.  They will try to be a spoiler for the Jets tomorrow in Philly.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Jets have the ball:  The Jets offensive is starting to look the way Coach Ryan wants it to.  So look for the Jets to ride RB Shonn Greene hard in the game tomorrow against a Eagles’ D that is giving up 115.1 yards rushing and 4.4 yards per carry.  The Jets need to run the ball well to set up playaction passes for Mark Sanchez.  Sanchez will try to get the ball down the field to WRs Santonio Holmes, Plaxico Burress and TE Dustin Keller….but it won’t be easy if the DBs play up to their ability tomorrow.  The Jets must also find a way to keep the Eagles’ out of their backfield and that won’t be easy as the Eagles already have 42 sacks so far this year.

When the Eagles have the ball:  Michael Vick came back from his broken ribs last weekend, but he didn’t venture out of the pocket much.  RB Lesean McCoy will be the main man in the running game but the Jets have tightened up as of late against the run as they are only giving up 3.9 yards per carry so far this year.  The Jets have the best secondary in the NFL, so Michael Vick is going to have to be careful throwing the ball.  The Eagles would be smart to attack the safeties by throwing the ball a lot to TE Brent Celek.

PREDICTION:  JETS 21, EAGLES 20

New York Jets (7-5) vs. Kansas City Chiefs (5-7)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 9 December 2011 at 4:49 pm

The Jets have won two games in a row and they can’t overlook the Chiefs this weekend.  The Chiefs have only scored 35 points in their last five games but they somehow beat the Bears 10-3 in Chicago last weekend.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Jets have the ball:  The Jets are going to come out running the ball this Sunday.  The Chiefs are giving up 130.3 yards rushing per game so far this year (4.2 ypc), so Shonn Greene is going to have  a chance to have a big game this weekend.  The Chiefs have a solid secondary as they have 17 interceptions so far this year, so Mark Sanchez is going to have to be careful with the football.  The Chiefs have a solid set of corners but the Jets are still going to try to get the ball to WRs Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress down the field.  Mark Sanchez will also be looking for TE Dustin Keller a lot in his game to challenge the safeties of the Chiefs.

When the Chiefs have the ball:  The Jets are going to focus on stopping the Chiefs’ running game and force Tyler Palko to beat them by throwing the ball.  The Chiefs use Dexter McCluster, Thomas Jones and Jackie Battle in the running game and they all give defenses a different look.  Of that bunch, McCluster is the only game breaker type.  The Jets probably won’t blitz much as Tyler Palko will make his fair share of mistakes with the football.  CBs Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie will have the upper hands on Chiefs’ WRs Dwayne Bowe and Steve Breaston, allowing the other nine guys on D to freelance a bit more than usual.

PREDICTION:  JETS 16, CHIEFS 6

New York Jets (6-5) vs. Washington Redskins (4-7)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 3 December 2011 at 6:58 pm

The Jets broke a 2-game losing streak last weekend in a hard fought 28-24 win at home against the Buffalo Bills.  The Redskins snapped a six game losing streak last weekend with a 23-17 on the road in Seattle.  Both teams have got to be feeling better about themselves after last weekend, so here is a look at the matchups in tomorrow’s game:

When the Jets have the ball:  The Jets have been running the ball more lately and look for that to continue against the Redskins.  The Jets really need Shonn Greene to have a good game to keep the offense balanced.  The Redkins have 33 sacks already this season as they blitz from everywhere.  So Mark Sanchez is going to have to make quick decisions with the football in this game.  That is not his strong suit.  TE Dustin Keller will likely be Sanchez’ top target in the passing game tomorrow, and the hope is that he will be able to get a lot of extra yards after the catch.  Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress will also give the Redskins’ DBs some issues with their size and speed combination.

When the Redskins have the ball:  The Redskins would like to run the ball a lot tomorrow, but Roy Helu just doesn’t scare the Jets’ D one bit.  The front seven should be able to handle him without much help from the secondary.  Redskins’ QB Rex Grossman is a gunslinger type, who is at his best throwing the longball.  Santana Moss and Jabar Gaffney are going to be his top targets in this game, so Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie are going to likely get challenged quite a big in this game.  Look for either Revis or Cromartie to pick off a pass in this game.  TE Fred Davis is going to give the Jets’ defense fits as he is developing into one of the better pass catching TEs in the NFL.

PREDICTION:  JETS 17, REDSKINS 13

New York Jets (5-5) vs. Buffalo Bills (5-5)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Friday 25 November 2011 at 10:28 pm

The Jets beat the Bills 27-11 just three weeks ago in Buffalo, and they have not won since.  The Jets have been outscored 54-29 the last two games.  The Bills have lost three games in a row by a combined score of 106-26!  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Jets have the ball:  The Jets might try to get the running game going if Shonn Greene and LaDainian Tomlinson are ready to play.  If not, look for Mark Sanchez to get the shackles taken off.  It makes sense to let Sanchez throw the ball 30+ times in this game as both of the Bills’ starting CBs are out for the season and the Bills only have 16 sacks so far this year.  WRs Plaxico Burress and Santonio Holmes have huge edges over the corners that will be playing this weekend.  If the Bills’ safeties try to double team either of the Jets’ WRs, look for Sanchez to attack them down the middle of the field with TE Dustin Keller.

When the Bills have the ball:  The Bills have had issues throwing the ball as of late, so I have a feeling that they might come out running the ball.  C.J. Spiller will be getting the start at RB and he has explosive speed.  The Jets’ front seven are going to have their hands full with stopping Spiller.  The Jets won’t be blitzing much in this game as they are confident that their secondary will be able to shut down Ryan Fitzpatrick again this weekend.

PREDICTION:  JETS 24, BILLS 13

New York Jets (5-4) vs. Denver Broncos (4-5)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Thursday 17 November 2011 at 3:25 pm

The New York Jets really need a win tonight after getting blasted by the Patriots last week.  The Broncos are 3-1 with Tim Tebow at QB, but he is 0-1 at home when the Broncos got pasted 45-10 by the Lions.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Jets have the ball:  The Jets are going to use the “Ground and Pound” early in this game against a Broncos’ D that is giving up 117.6 yards rushing per game and 4.0 yards per carry so far this year.  Shonn Greene will have a heavy workload with L.T. out tonight.  The Jets are also going to pass a lot, especially when the secondary of the Broncos sneaks up to stop Greene.  Mark Sanchez will need to get rid of the ball quickly as the Broncos have 24 sacks already this year.  TE Dustin Keller and WRs Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress should be able to make plays down the field against a Broncos’ D that is allowing 243.1 yards passing per game so far this year.

When the Broncos have the ball:  This is a good matchup for the Jets’ D.  They will likely stick CB Darrelle Revis on Broncos’ WR Eric Decker, who is Tim Tebow’s favorite WR.  I don’t look for the Broncos to test the Jets’ secondary much as they already have 13 sacks this year.  The Jets are giving up 116.0 yards rushing per game and 4.0 yards per carry, so the Broncos are going to run, run and run some more tonight.  If Willis McGahee doesn’t play (he has a broken hand), the Broncos’ rushing attack (they are averaging 158.2 yards rushing per game and 5.0 yards per carry) will fall to Lance Ball and Tim Tebow.

PREDICTION:  JETS 27, BRONCOS 13

New York Jets (5-3) vs. New England Patriots (5-3)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 12 November 2011 at 2:04 am

The Jets are on a hot streak right now as they have won three games in a row by a combined score of 78-38!  The Patriots on the other hand, have lost games to the Steelers and Giants the last two weeks.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Jets have the ball:  The Jets are going to try to continue getting the running game going with Shonn Greene and LaDainian Tomlinson getting shots at the Patriots’ run D.  But, the Jets are going to throw the ball a lot more than usual this weekend due to the pathetic secondary of the Patriots, which is allowing 314.0 yards passing per game so far this year.  Look for Sanchez to spread the ball around to Plaxico Burress, Santonio Holmes, Dustin Keller and LaDainian Tomlinson to keep everyone happy.

When the Patriots have the ball:  The Patriots are likely going to use the TEs a lot in this game, as they are going to be careful with dealing with the Jets’ corners.  That doesn’t mean that Deion Branch and Wes Welker aren’t going to get the ball thrown their way, because they will.  The Jets are going to have to be ready to deal with BenJarvus Green-Ellis, as the Jets are giving up 123.0 yards rushing per game and 4.2 yards per carry so far this year.

PREDICTION:  JETS 30, PATRIOTS 23

New York Jets (4-3) vs. Buffalo Bills (5-2)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Thursday 3 November 2011 at 1:55 pm

The Jets and Bills are set up for a HUGE game this Sunday in Buffalo.  The Jets are coming off their bye week, which has given them two weeks to prepare for the Bills.  The Bills are coming off a 23-0 shutout of the now awful Washington Redskins.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Jets have the ball:  The Jets don’t want to get into a firefight with the Bills, so look for them to try to control the football with the running game.  Shonn Greene will be taking aim at a Bills’ D that is allowing 120.0 yards rushing per game and 4.9 yards per carry.  Look for LaDainian Tomlinson to also see a bump in touches this weekend.  The Bills had 9 sacks last weekend, so Mark Sanchez is likely going to want to get rid of the ball quickly this Sunday.  The Bills already have 14 interceptions so far this year, so Sanchez will have to be very careful even though he’s going to try to get rid of the ball quickly….and that is hard to do.  WRs Plaxico Burress, Santonio Holmes and Jeremy Kerley are going to need to catch shorter passes and get yards after the catch.  TE Dustin Keller and LaDainian Tomlinson will also get their fair share of targets this weekend.

When the Bills have the ball:  The Jets need to key on stopping RB Fred Jackson (721 yards rushing, 5.5 ypc and 6 TD runs) in this game, and that will be easier said than done.  If the Jets can force Ryan Fitzpatrick to throw the ball in long yardage situations, they will have a huge edge.  CBs Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie should be able to stop WRs Steve Johnson and David Nelson from making big plays down the field.  The safeties will have to concern themselves with stopping TE Scott Chandler, who has already caught 6 TD passes so far this year.

PREDICTION:  JETS 24, BILLS 17

New York Jets (2-3) vs. Miami Dolphins (0-4)

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Saturday 15 October 2011 at 6:16 pm

The New York Jets have to be glad to be back home after having a very disappointing 3-game road trip in which they lost all of the games.  They are 2-0 at home this year, outscoring their opponents 59-27.  The Dolphins had a bye week last weekend, so they have had two weeks to get ready for the Jets.  Here is a look at the matchups in this game:

When the Jets have the ball:  The Jets want to get the running game going again.  Shonn Greene and LaDainian Tomlinson will likely get their fair share of touches against a Dolphins’ D that is allowing 107.5 yards rushing per game and 4.1 yards per carry so far this year.  Head Coach Rex Ryan might take the shackles off of QB Mark Sanchez as the Dolphins are giving up 307.0 yards passing per game so far this year.  The Dolphins’ secondary flat out stinks, so if Sanchez has time to throw the ball (a big if), he’s going to do some damage down the field.  Dustin Keller, Plaxico Burress, Santonio Holmes and LaDainian Tomlinson are all in line for big games in the passing game this Monday Night.

When the Dolphins have the ball:  The Dolphins are going to try to run the ball with Daniel Thomas and Reggie Bush against a Jets’ that is allowing 134.8 yards rushing per game and 4.2 yards per carry.  The Dolphins are likely going to keep the passing game short in an effort to protect QB Matt Moore from the Jets’ blitzing game.  He has talented WRs in Brandon Marshall, Brian Hartline, Davone Bess, Anthony Fasano and Reggie Bush.

PREDICTION:  JETS 23, DOLPHINS 17
