The Jets looked pretty awful last night and they were lucky to only lose by 10 points.  Greg McElroy completed 3 of 6 passes for 29 yards without a TD pass or INT last night.  He also dislocated the thumb on his right hand which might end his season.  Drew Willy finished up this game at QB by completing 9 of 17 passes for 109 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 7 yards (2.3 ypc) in this game.  WR Dan DePalma led the way on the ground for the Jets last night with 8 yards on 1 carry and that tells you a lot about the running game.  TE Jeff Cumberland (3 rec, 36 yards), TE Josh Baker (3 rec, 30 yards) and WR Scotty McKnight (1 rec, 14 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Jets.  The Jets finished up with 24 yards on 16 carries (1.5 ypc) and they also completed 12 of 23 passes (52.2%) for 93 yards as they only had possession of the ball for 18:47.

The poor Jets’ D was on the field for most of this game.  LB Brashton Satele (8 tackles), CB Maurquice Cole (7 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit), LB Eddie Jones (7 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss) and safety Emanuel Cook (7 tackles, 1 pass defensed) led the way for the Jets’ D in this game.  CB Ellis Lankster (intercepted a pass that he returned 67 yards for a TD) and safety Bryon Landor (fumble recovery) made big plays for the Jets last night.  The Eagles finished up with 124 yards rushing on 43 carries (2.9 ypc) and they also completed 22 of 34 passes (64.7%) for 254 yards.  The Jets finished up the preseason with a 2-2 record.

Rookie QB Greg McElroy has looked sharp for the New York Jets

23-year old rookie QB Greg McElroy is looking good so far in the preseason.  The 7th round pick out of Alabama has gotten a ton of P.T. in the preseason due to ancient Mark Brunell being banged up.  McElroy has played in all three preseason games for the Jets so far and he has completed 33 of 53 passes (62.3%) for 306 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 INTs.  He has also carried the ball 7 times for 31 yards (4.4 ypc) in the preseason.  McElroy has certainly stepped up for the Jets in the preseason and they are likely very comfortable with him as the #3 QB.  He might even push Brunell for the #2 spot later in the year.

UPDATE:  (9/3/2011) – Greg McElroy completed 3 of 6 passes for 29 yards in the Jets’ last preseason game.  But, he dislocated his right thumb, which could cause him to miss the rest of the 2011 season.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Jets have placed Greg McElroy on Injured Reserve, ending his season.

The Jets physically beat up the Giants in a very ugly game last night.  Mark Sanchez was so-so last night as he completed 8 of 16 passes for 64 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  Greg McElroy was efficient in completing 4 of 5 passes for 39 yards last night.  Rookie WR Jeremy Kerley did a pretty good Brad Smith impersonation last night.  He completed his only pass attempt, which was good for 18 yards.  He returned a punt for 17 yards.  Kerley also carried the ball 2 times for 13 yards (6.5 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 6 yards.  Shonn Greene led the way on the ground for the Jets in this game with 42 yards rushing on 11 carries (3.8 ypc).  Joe McKnight (9 carries, 35 yards) and Bilal Powell (3 carries, 11 yards, TD) also pitched in for the Jets in the running game last night.  TE Matthew Mulligan (3 rec, 43 yards) and WR Santonio Holmes (2 rec, 37 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game for the Jets.  The Jets finished up with 112 yards rushing on 38 carries (2.9 ypc) and they also completed 13 of 22 passes (59.1%) for 121 yards last night.

The defense was outstanding for the Jets last night as they took the fight to the Giants’ offense.  LBs Bart Scott (8 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss), Nick Bellore (7 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack, 1 pass defensed and 1 QB hit) and David Harris (7 tackles, 2 passes defensed) led the way for the Jets’ D in this game.  Safety Jim Leonhard also had a big game with 4 tackles, 1 pass defensed, 1 QB hit and 1 interception.  The Giants finished up with 105 yards rushing on 25 carries (4.2 ypc) and they also completed 20 of 42 passes (47.6%) for 222 yards in this game.  The Jets are now 2-1 on the preseason.

The Jets had the ball a stunning 36:04 last night but it didn’t matter as the offense couldn’t put enough points on the board to win.  The Jets’ QBs were sacked 7 times last night as there were a lot of protection problems last night.  Mark Sanchez started last night and he completed 6 of 7 passes for 43 yards without a TD pass or an interception.  Rookie Greg McElroy finished up this game at QB by completing 23 of 39 passes for 208 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs.  He also carried the ball 4 times for 24 yards (6.0 ypc) last night.  McElroy was under constant pressure last night as he fumbled three times last night, losing one of them.  Shonn Greene led the way on the ground for the Jets last night with 32 yards on 5 carries (6.4 ypc).  He also caught 1 pass for 5 yards.  Rookie RB Bilal Powell pitched in with 25 yards rushing on 9 carries (2.8 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 27 yards (9.0 avg) last night.  Joe McKnight rushed for 24 yards on 5 carries (4.8 ypc) and he also caught 1 pass for 4 yards last night.  TEs Jeff Cumberland (6 rec, 77 yards) and Josh Baker (3 rec, 45 yards) led the way in the passing game for the Jets last night.  WR Patrick Turner also pitched in with 6 grabs for 32 yards (5.3 avg) with 1 TD grab.  The Jets finished up with 100 yards rushing on 26 carries (3.8 ypc) and they also completed 29 of 46 passes (63%) for 210 yards last night.

The Jets pushed the Eagles around all night long despite only winning this game by 4 points.  Kellen Clemens was so-so in this game as he completed 7 of 13 passes for 70 yards.  He also carried the ball 2 times for 18 yards (9.0 ypc) before leaving with a injury.  Mark Brunell was very solid for the Jets last night as he completed 11 of 17 passes for 118 yards with 2 TD passes.  Chauncey Washington led the way on the ground with 56 yards rushing on 12 carries (4.7 ypc).  Danny Woodhead (12 car, 45 yards, TD) and Joe McKnight (9 rec, 34 yards) both pitched in on the ground for the Jets in this game.  Santonio Holmes caught 4 passes for 97 yards (24.3 avg) including a TD pass.  TE Jeff Cumberland pitched in with 2 grabs for 7 yards with a TD.  The Jets finished up with 175 yards rushing (4.5 ypc) and 172 yards passing as they had possession of the ball for 37:31.

LaDainian Tomlinson is showing that he might have something left in the tank for the New York Jets

31-year old RB LaDainian Tomlinson looks like he wants to be more than just Shonn Greene’s caddy this year for the Jets.  He has carried the ball 22 times for 129 yards (5.9 ypc) and he has caught 4 passes for 25 yards (6.3 avg) so far this pre-season.  I still think that Greene will get the bulk of the workload on 1st and 2nd down for the Jets this year, don’t be surprised if L.T. gets more P.T. than anyone thought he would in 2010.

Washington Redskins 16, New York Jets 11

Call me crazy but I don’t think the Jets are trying to show anything during the pre-season as the gameplans seem very vanilla to me.  They looked that way again last night against the Redskins.  Mark Sanchez looked a little better than he has in the other games as he completed 13 of 21 passes for 139 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  Mark Brunell didn’t do much as he finished the game by completing 1 of 3 passes for 7 yards.  LaDainian Tomlinson led the way on the ground for the Jets in this game with 86 yards rushing on 11 carries (7.8 ypc).  Shonn Greene pitched in with 56 yards rushing on 12 carries (4.7 ypc) last night.  Dustin Keller led the way in the passing game last night for the Jets with 5 grabs for 46 yards (9.2 avg) with 1 TD grab.  The Jets finished up with 161 yards rushing on 32 carries (5.0 ypc).  They also threw for 127 yards last night.

OLB Calvin Pace led the way for the Jets’ D in this game with 5 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack and 1 QB hit.  The Redskins finished up with 82 yards rushing (2.8 ypc) and 210 yards passing in this game.  The Jets are now 1-2 on the pre-season.

New York Jets 9, Carolina Panthers 3

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,The Pre Season by admin on Tuesday 24 August 2010 at 11:51 am

This was a awful game but at least the Jets played well on D.  Mark Sanchez started at QB and he completed 5 of 12 passes for only 10 yards.  Mark Brunell was even worse completing 3 of 7 passes for 2 whole yards.  Kellen Clemens was the best QB for the Jets on this day as he completed 4 of 6 passes for 32 yards.  Kevin O’Connell finished up things by throwing three incomplete passes.  Rookie RB Joe McKnight led the way on the ground for the Jets in this game with 28 yards rushing on 11 carries (2.5 ypc).  LaDainian Tomlinson ran the ball well as he carried the ball 3 times for 26 yards (8.7 ypc).  Laveranues Coles led the way in the passing game with 3 grabs for 12 yards.  The Jets finished up with 96 yards rushing (2.8 ypc) and only 16 yards passing against the Panthers.

OLB/DE Vernon Gholston led the way for the Jets in this game with 5 tackles including 2 tackles for a loss.  CB Antonio Cromartie also had a solid game with 4 tackles.  The Panthers finished up with only 82 yards rushing (3.9 ypc) and 93 passing yards in this game.

The Jets should have dominated this game as they had more yards 362-353 than the Giants and they had possession of the ball for 36:48.  Mark Sanchez looked pretty sharp in this game as he completed 13 of 17 passes for 119 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  Mark Brunell only completed 1 of 3 passes for 14 yards in a very brief appearance.  Kellen Clemens looked allright completing 7 of 10 passes for 84 yards last night.  Kevin O’Connell finished up the game at QB for the Jets last night and he was not good as he completed 8 of 13 passes for 70 yards with 2 INTs.  Rookie RB Joe McKnight led the way on the ground for the Jets last night with 32 yards on 13 carries (2.5 ypc).  Shonn Greene (5 car, 26 yards) and LaDainian Tomlinson (8 car, 17 yards) each got their work in last night for the Jets.  WRs Santonio Holmes (4 rec, 55 yards), Danny Woodhead (5 rec, 41 yards) and Brad Smith (3 rec, 14 yards, TD) all helped out the Jets in the passing game last night.  The Jets finished up with 83 yards rushing (3.0 ypc) and 279 yards passing in the game last night.

Linebacker Kenwin Cummings led a sub par effort from the Jets’ D last night with 7 tackles including 1 tackle for a loss.  The Giants finished up with 63 yards rushing (3.0 ypc) and 290 yards passing last night.
