24-year old QB Mark Sanchez hasn’t played too well the last two weeks.  Sanchez has only completed 33 of 61 passes (54.1%) for 330 yards with 1 TD pass and 4 INTs in his last two games.  He has also carried the ball 7 times for 16 yards (2.3 ypc) in his last two games.  Sanchez has now played in 12 games for the Jets so far this year and he has completed 218 of 397 passes (54.9%) for 2,636 yards with 16 TD passes and 11 INTs (77.4 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 25 times for 70 yards (2.8 ypc) with 2 TD runs so far this year.  It is starting to become apparent that Sanchez just isn’t that great of a QB.  The Jets have surrounded him with big time playmakers but he still isn’t putting up impressive numbers.

27-year old WR Braylon Edwards has been yapping about returning to Cleveland and sticking it to the Browns this weekend.  Maybe he should concentrate on actually catching the passes that hit his brick hands and bounce off of them.  He has played in 8 games for the Jets so far this year and he has 25 catches for 453 yards (18.1 avg) with 5 TD grabs.  Edwards has now played in 20 games with the Jets and he has caught 60 passes for 1,004 yards (16.7 avg) with 9 TD grabs.  He has the look of an elite WR but he just doesn’t play like one.

23-year old QB Mark Sanchez has been pretty awful the last three weeks but the Jets are still somehow 2-1 in those games.  In Sanchez’ last three games, he has completed 54 of 112 passes (48.2%) for 645 yards with 1 TD pass and 4 INTs.  The Jets need him to get his act back together so they don’t have to put too much pressure on the running game and the defense.  Sanchez has played in 7 games overall this year for the Jets and he has completed 114 of 215 passes (53%) for 1,356 yards with 9 TD passes and 4 INTs (78.8 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 11 times for 27 yards (2.5 ypc) so far this year.  The Jets need Sanchez to step up, plain and simple.

The Jets are confident that Leon Washington will be able to give them a lot of production in 2010 as long as he can stay healthy.  Washington played in 7 games for the Jets last season and he carried the ball 72 times for 331 yards (4.6 ypc).  He also caught 15 passes for 131 yards (8.7 avg) last season for the Jets.  Washington’s season ended with a broken leg in 2009 but reports are that his recovery is coming along quite well.  Washington has now played in 55 games in his four years with the Jets and he has carried the ball 370 times for 1,782 yards (4.8 ypc) with 13 TD runs.  Washington also has caught 123 passes for 969 yards (7.9 avg) with 2 TD grabs in his time with the Jets.  Washington has a perfect skill set to combine with Shonn Greene’s to give the Jets dynamic play again in 2010 out of the running back position.

The Jets just wanted their QBs to manage the game and that’s exactly what they did in 2009.  23-year old rookie QB Mark Sanchez started 15 games for the Jets this season and he completed 196 of 364 passes (53.8%) for 2,444 yards with 12 TD passes and 20 INTs (63.0 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 36 times for 106 yards (2.9 ypc) with 3 TD runs this year.  The Jets hope that Sanchez has learned from his mistakes this year and hopes he won’t repeat them in 2010.

26-year old Kellen Clemens started 1 game for the Jets this season and he completed 13 of 26 passes (50%) for 125 yards without a TD or a INT (63.8 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 12 times for 1 yard (0.1 ypc) this year.  Clemens has now played in 24 games in his career with the Jets and he has completed 146 of 282 passes (51.8%) for 1,680 yards with 5 TD passes and 11 INTs (59.7 QB Rating).  Clemens has also carried the ball 44 times for 119 yards (2.7 ypc) with 1 TD run in his career.  The Jets might want to upgrade the back-up position for 2010 as they seem to have little faith in Clemens rushing Sanchez back to the field after he was injured.

With the Jets rushing for 163.0 yards per game this season and 4.9 yards per carry you would think Mark Sanchez would have a easy time throwing the ball.  That has not been true especially in the last three weeks in which he has completed 36 of 80 passes (45%) for 429 yards with 1 TD pass and 8 interceptions.  The Jets are not thinking about replacing him yet but they can’t let him play too much longer unless he turns things around.  He has now completed 85 of 163 passes (52.1%) for 1,035 yards with 5 TD passes and 10 INTs (56.7 QB Rating).  Sanchez has also carried the ball 18 times for 50 yards (2.8 ypc) with 1 TD run.  Look for the Jets to continue to lean on the running game until Sanchez starts to have better success throwing the football.
