The New York Jets release Vernon Gholston

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Tuesday 1 March 2011 at 1:21 pm

The New York Jets have released 24-year old DE/OLB Vernon Gholston.  He played in 16 games for the Jets last season and he had 12 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss.  Gholston played in 45 games in his three years with the Jets and he had 42 tackles and 0 sacks.  Gholston was a 1st round pick in 2008 for the Jets who envisioned him as a big time pass rusher.  They were way off on that one.  The Jets won’t miss Gholston at all going forward.

The New York Jets release Kris Jenkins

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Tuesday 1 March 2011 at 1:18 pm

The Jets have released 31-year old DT Kris Jenkins.  Jenkins only played in 1 game for the Jets last season and he had 1 tackle.  Jenkins played in 23 games in 3 years with the Jets and he had 64 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 2 passes defensed and 1 forced fumble.  Jenkins had a solid year back in 2008 for the Jets, but he has been very injury prone and ineffective the last two years.  The Jets did fine without Jenkins last season and I don’t think they will miss him too much.

The New York Jets release Jason Taylor

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Tuesday 1 March 2011 at 1:15 pm

The Jets have released 36-year old DE/OLB Jason Taylor.  Taylor played in all 16 games for the Jets last season and he had 36 tackles, 5 tackles for a loss, 5 sacks, 6 passes defensed, 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.  Taylor was effective in his role as a pass rusher so I’m a little surprised that the Jets cut him to save a few bucks.  They will have to replace Taylor in either the draft or free agency because they really lack a decent pass rusher.

The New York Jets waive Matt Kroul

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Saturday 1 January 2011 at 6:14 pm

The Jets have waived 24-year old DT/DE Matt Kroul.  Kroul played in 6 games for the Jets this year and he had 3 tackles.  Kroul is the big loser in this as he won’t be adding any playoff paychecks to his coffer.  The Jets won’t miss him at all going forward.

The New York Jets release DT Howard Green again

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,Leaving Town by admin on Thursday 28 October 2010 at 8:07 pm

The Jets have released 31-year old DT Howard Green once again.  Green played in 2 games for the Jets this year and he had 1 tackle and 1 forced fumble.  Green played in 14 games in parts of two years with the Jets and he had 24 tackles and 1 forced fumble.  Green won’t be sitting around waiting for another call from the Jets as he was claimed quickly off waivers by the Green Bay Packers.

The New York Jets cut two players

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,Leaving Town by admin on Tuesday 5 October 2010 at 2:16 pm

The Jets have released WRs David Clowney and Patrick Turner.  The Jets needed their roster spots to activate WR Santonio Holmes from his league suspension and they also re-signed NT Howard Green.  Clowney played in 3 games for the Jets this year and he had 1 catch for 22 yards.  He has played in 18 games in his three years with the Jets and he caught 16 passes for 239 yards (14.9 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Turner didn’t get into any games for the Jets this year.  31-year old Howard Green is back with the Jets.  He played in 1 game earlier this year for the Jets and he had 1 tackle and 1 forced fumble.  The Jets have been waiting for 26-year old WR Santonio Holmes who will give the Jets another big weapon in the passing game.   Holmes played in 16 games for the Steelers last year and he caught 79 passes for 1,248 yards (15.8 avg) with 5 TD grabs.

The New York Jets sign Trevor Pryce

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,Leaving Town by admin on Friday 1 October 2010 at 9:18 am

The Jets have signed 35-year old DE Trevor Pryce.  Pryce played in 16 games for the Ravens last season and he had 31 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss and 1 forced fumble.  He has now played in 174 games in his NFL career and he has 435 tackles, 90 sacks, 25 passes defensed, 12 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions.  The Jets will likely use Pryce as a situational pass rusher.  To make room on the roster for Pryce the Jets have released 31-year old NT Howard Green.  Green played in 1 game for the Jets this year and he had 1 tackle and 1 forced fumble.  He played in 13 games in two years with the Jets and he had 24 tackles and 1 forced fumble.

The New York Jets release Danny Woodhead

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,Leaving Town by admin on Saturday 18 September 2010 at 4:37 pm

The Jets have released 25-year old RB/WR Danny Woodhead who was quickly signed by the Patriots who the Jets play tomorrow.  Woodhead played in last week’s game against the Ravens but he didn’t get any touches.  Woodhead played in 11 games (0 starts) for the Jets in his two years with them and he carried the ball 15 times for 64 yards (4.3 ypc).  He also caught 8 passes for 87 yards (10.9 avg) for the Jets.  Woodhead will no doubt give up some secrets to the Patriots’ coaches for tomorrow’s game.

The New York Jets release Laveranues Coles

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 1 September 2010 at 4:24 pm

The Jets have released 32-year old WR Laveranues Colts.  Coles played in 3 pre-season games for the Jets this year and he caught 4 passes for 19 yards (4.8 avg).  Coles played in 16 games (13 starts) for the Bengals last year in which he caught 43 passes for 514 yards (12.0 avg) with 5 TD grabs.  I wouldn’t be surprised if Coles hooked on with another team soon but the Jets liked their other receivers better so I don’t have an issue with this.

The New York Jets cut Kevin O’Connell

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,Leaving Town by admin on Wednesday 1 September 2010 at 4:22 pm

The Jets have cut 25-year old QB Kevin O’Connell.  O’Connell played in three pre-season games for the Jets and he completed 8 of 16 passes (50%) for 70 yards with 0 TD passes and 2 INTs (22.4 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 2 times for 7 yards (3.5 ypc) for the Jets in the pre-season.  This did not come as much of a surprise with Mark Sanchez, Mark Brunell and Kellen Clemens ahead of O’Connell on the depth chart.

UPDATE:  The Jets have re-signed Kevin O’Connell to a 2-year deal.  O’Connell has a torn labrum in his right shoulder so the Jets have placed him on I.R.
