New York Jets’ WR’s hurting; practice squad player getting a chance?

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Injury Reports by Andrew on Thursday 15 October 2009 at 6:58 pm

With the New York Jets’ wide-receivers Jerricho Cotchery and Brad Smith most likely out this week against the Buffalo Bills, there is a possibility that the Jets may move one of their practice squad players to the 53-man roster.  That player would be Danny Woodhead, who is actually a running back.  The Jets moved him to wide-reciever this week though and he switched his number from 22 to 83.  Woodhead has gained a lot of praise for his good hands and athleticism, as well has his ability to learn on the fly.  Head coach Rex Ryan was very impressed with Woodhead in the preseason and really liked what he saw out of him when he was on their scout team in week 2 against the Patriots.  He played the role of Wes Welker that week, and apparently did an excellent job of it.  If Woodhead is able to get a good enough grasp of the offense from a slot-receiver position, then you may see him on the field Sunday against the Bills.  A player would have to be dropped to make room for Woodhead though, so it may not happen.

The New York Jets will be without LB David Harris for a while

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by admin on Sunday 9 November 2008 at 10:20 pm

The Jets will be without starting inside linebacker David Harris indefinately with a pulled groin.  Harris has played in 7 games for the Jets this season and he has made 46 tackles and he has 1/2 a sack.  This could hurt the run defense of the Jets as Harris loves to hit running backs.

The New York Jets place a couple of players on Injured Reserve

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by admin on Sunday 9 November 2008 at 1:47 pm

The Jets have placed QB Erik Ainge and RB Jesse Chatman on the Injured Reserve List ending their seasons.  Ainge was the #4 QB on the Jets so they won’t miss him.  He officially has a right foot injury.  Chatman played in 3 games this season for the Jets and he carried the ball 3 times for 8 yards (2.7 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 5 yards (2.5 avg).  The Jets won’t likely miss either of these guys the rest of the season.

The New York Jets lose Mike Nugent and sign Jay Feely

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,Injury Reports by admin on Thursday 11 September 2008 at 4:30 pm

Jets’ starting kicker Mike Nugent will be out indefinately with a pulled thigh muscle.  He tried to play through it in the season opener for the Jets and he made both of his extra points but missed his only field goal attempt.  The Jets acted quickly to replace Nugent by signing 32-year old Jay Feely to replace him.  Feely played in all 16 games for the Dolphins last season and he connected on 21 of 23 field goals (91.3%).  He also made all 26 of his field goal attempts.  Feely is a good fit for the Jets as he used to play for the Giants and knows the Meadowlands well.  Feely has now played in 112 games in his NFL career and he has connected on 177 of 219 field goals (80.8%) and 249 of 251 extra points (99.2%) in his career.

The New York Jets lose WR David Clowney

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports,The Pre Season by admin on Tuesday 19 August 2008 at 4:07 pm

The Jets have lost WR David Clowney possibly for the season with a broken collar bone.  That is a shame as Clowney was the Jets’ best player during the preseason so far.  In the Jets first two preseason games, Clowney caught 8 passes for 222 yards (27.8 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  He was making a huge run at the third WR job for the Jets when he was injured.  2nd year WR Chansi Stuckey or Brad Smith will likely win the #3 WR job with the loser of the competition being the #4 man for the Jets in 2008.  This is a shame as Clowney was really looking good this preseason.

The New York Jets place Jonathan Vilma on I.R.

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by admin on Friday 2 November 2007 at 12:21 pm

The Jets have placed linebacker Jonathan Vilma on the Injured Reserve List with a right knee injury.  Vilma finished the season with 43 tackles and a interception.  Vilma will be replaced by rookie David Harris who’s off to an outstanding start to his career for the Jets.  Harris has made 42 tackles this season and he has a sack.

The New York Jets will likely be without strong safety Erik Coleman this week

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by dawgpounded on Thursday 4 October 2007 at 4:01 pm

The New York Jets will be likely without starting strong safety Erik Coleman for this weekend’s clash with the Giants.  He is still recovering from a concussion.  Coleman has 29 tackles already this season for the Jets.  He will be replaced in the starting lineup by Eric Smith who has 4 tackles this season.

The New York Jets lose KR/CB Justin Miller for the season

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by dawgpounded on Tuesday 18 September 2007 at 5:52 pm

The Jets have lost CB/KR Justin Miller for the season with ligament damage in his right knee.  He had 2 tackles this season and he returned 2 kickoffs for 48 yards (24.0 avg).  Miller will be replaced on kickoff returns by running back Leon Washington.  Washington has returned 5 kickoffs for 114 yards (22.8 avg) so far this season but he’s not the big-time game breaker that Justin Miller is.

Rookie WR Chansi Stuckey placed on I.R.

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports,The Draft Report by dawgpounded on Thursday 13 September 2007 at 10:46 pm

The Jets have placed Chansi Stuckey on the Injured Reserve List due to a foot injury ending his rookie year.  Stuckey was the leading receiver in receptions with 11 in the pre-season for the Jets.  They really like him but they will have to wait a year to get him back on the field.

Chad Pennington is likely OUT for Sunday’s Jets game

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by dawgpounded on Thursday 13 September 2007 at 10:37 pm

Chad Pennington hasn’t really been able to practice on his injured ankle this week and it’s looking very likely that he will sit out this week’s game in Baltimore against the Ravens.  Pennington played well against the Patriots as he completed 16 of 21 passes (76.2%) for 167 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 interceptions (130.5 QB Rating).  Enter Kellen Clemens who is the likely starting QB against the Ravens.  Clemens completed 5 of 10 passes (50%) for 35 yards against the Patriots after he relieved Pennington.  Clemens had an outstanding pre-season for the Jets as he completed 30 of 41 passes (73.2%) for 364 yards with 4 TD passes and 2 interceptions (112.2 QB Rating).  It will be interesting to see how Clemens handles facing live bullets against an outstanding Baltimore Ravens defense.
