New York Jets 38, Buffalo Bills 7
The New York Jets took the Buffalo Bills behind the woodshed yesterday! Mark Sanchez played the first series in this game without attempting any passes before sitting down and watching the rest of the game. Mark Brunell played most of the rest of the game as he completed 6 of 12 passes for 110 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT (It was returned 37 yards for a TD by Jairus Byrd of the Bills). Kellen Clemens finished up this game at QB by completing 1 of 2 passes for 6 yards. He also carried the ball 2 times for 9 yards (4.5 ypc) with a TD run. Rookie RB Joe McKnight was a workhorse yesterday as he carried the ball 32 times for 158 yards (4.9 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 15 yards (7.5 avg). Brad Smith rushed for 60 yards on 5 carries (12.0 ypc) and he completed his only pass attempt which was good for 3 yards yesterday. Rookie fullback John Conner also got into the action yesterday with 8 carries for 44 yards (5.5 ypc) with a TD run. WRs Braylon Edwards (1 rec, 52 yards, TD), Jerricho Cotchery (3 rec, 32 yards) and Santonio Holmes (1 rec, 17 yards, TD) led the way in the passing game yesterday. The Jets finished up with 276 yards rushing on 50 carries (5.5 ypc) and they also completed 8 of 15 passes for 112 yards as they had possession of the football for 35:35.
The Jets rested a lot of players on D but the ones that played were electric. CB Marquice Cole led the way for the Jets on D with 6 tackles, 3 passes defensed and 2 interceptions (one of which he returned 35 yards for a TD). CB/S Dwight Lowery (fumble recovery, interception), LB Jamaal Westerman (fumble recovery) and OLB Calvin Pace (interception) also made big plays for the Jets’ D yesterday. The Bills finished up with 37 yards rushing on 18 carries (2.1 ypc) and they also completed 12 of 26 passes for 125 yards in this game. The Jets finished the regular season with an 11-5 record which had them in second place in the AFC East. They will be heading to Indianapolis this weekend for a playoff tilt with the Colts.
