The Jets played great in the first half leading the game 17-13.  But two things happened in the second half that doomed the Jets.  1.) Shonn Greene got hurt and 2.) Peyton Manning showed why he is the best QB in the world.  Mark Sanchez had a very solid game for the Jets as he completed 17 of 30 passes for 257 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 INT.  Brad Smith caught two passes for 7 yards but it was his 45-yard completion on his only pass attempt that was his most electric play of the game.  Thomas Jones led the Jets in rushing in this game with 42 yards on 16 carries (2.6 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 28 yards (14.0 avg).  Shonn Greene carried the ball 10 times for 41 yards (4.1 ypc) with a TD run before getting injured.  Jerricho Cotchery (5 rec, 102 yards), Braylon Edwards (2 rec, 100 yards, TD) and Dustin Keller (6 rec, 63 yards, TD) all had solid games for the Jets yesterday.  The Jets finished up with 388 total yards on offense (86 rushing, 302 passing) in this game.

Linebacker David Harris was a beast for the Jets yesterday as he finished up with 11 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 2 sacks and 2 QB hits.  Safety Kerry Rhodes pitched in with 8 tackles.  But the overall play of the defense was disappointing for the Jets yesterday as the Colts ran up 461 total yards on offense (101 rushing, 360 passing) in this game.  The Jets have nothing to feel bad about as they went farther than anyone that wasn’t in their locker-room thought they could.

New York Jets 17, San Diego Chargers 14

The Jets must have had a voodoo doll shaped like Nate Kaeding because he missed three chip shot field goals in this game for the Chargers.  But, make no mistake the Jets deserved to win this game as they played better than the Chargers.  Mark Sanchez was still in his game manager mode as he completed 12 of 23 passes for 100 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 INT.  Fellow rookie Shonn Greene had another monster game with 23 carries for 128 yards (5.6 ypc) with a TD run.  Thomas Jones pitched in with 41 yards rushing on 14 carries (2.9 ypc) yesterday.  Braylon Edwards (2 rec, 41 yards), Jerricho Cotchery (3 rec, 25 yards) and Dustin Keller (3 rec, 19 yards, TD) all pitched in on the passing game for the Jets.  The Jets finished up with 262 total yards on offense (169 rushing, 93 passing) in this game as they held onto the ball for 31:31.

The defense was solid again yesterday for the Jets.  David Harris led the way for the Jets with 10 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 pass defensed for the Jets yesterday.  Safety Kerry Rhodes was also busy with 8 tackles, 1 sack and 1 QB hit in this game.  Safety Jim Leonhard had a great game for the Jets yesterday with 6 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 2 passes defensed and 1 interception.  The INT was deep in Chargers’ territory setting up a score for the Jets.  CB Darrelle Revis pitched in with 2 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 2 passes defensed and 1 interception.  The INT was a incredible play by Revis deep in Jets’ territory.  The Chargers finished up with 344 total yards on offense (61 rushing, 283 passing) in this game.  The Jets will take on the Colts in Indianapolis for the rite to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl.

New York Jets 37, Cincinnati Bengals 0

The New York Jets (9-7) got the biggest win of their season, beating the Cincinnati Bengals (10-6) at home.  It was a must-win for the Jets, because if they lost they would be on vacation right now instead of preparing for the first round of the playoffs.  The Jets’ running game did most of the work for the offense, getting 257 yards of the 320 total yards.  Mark Sanchez didn’t have to do much other than hand the ball off and manage the game.  He went 8/16 for 63 yards and did not turn the ball over, so he did his job.  Brad Smith had a career game, rushing for 92 yards and a touchdown on 4 carries, including a 57-yard run.

The Jets’ defense had been great all season, and this game was no different.  Their defense is the reason they are in the playoffs this season and they made a statement in this game.  They held Carson Palmer to 0 yards, on 1/11 passes and they picked him off once.  Those are some pretty pathetic numbers the Jets’ defense forced Palmer into.  They also held the Bengals to 72 yards, although Cedric Benson did sit this one out for the Bengals.  The Bengals were resting some of their starters, but the Jets completely dominated this game and look ready for the playoffs.

New York Jets 29, Indianapolis Colts 15

The Jets got a huge win yesterday but the game didn’t start going in their favor until the Colts yanked their starters.  Still, the Jets will take it any way they can get it.  Mark Sanchez managed the game by completing 12 of 19 passes for 106 yards with 0 TD passes and 0 INTs.  Thomas Jones led the way on the ground for the Jets in this game with 23 carries for 105 yards (4.6 ypc) with a TD run.  Shonn Greene also was very effective running the ball as he finished with 95 yards on 16 carries (5.9 ypc).  Jerricho Cotchery led the way in the passing game for the Jets with 4 grabs for 45 yards (11.3 avg) in this game.  The Jets finished up with 293 total yards on offense (202 rushing, 91 passing) in this game.

David Harris led the way for the Jets on defense in this game with 9 tackles.  CB Dwight Lowery (INT) and DE Marques Douglas (1-yard fumble recovery for a TD) had huge plays in this game for the Jets.  The Colts finished up with only 277 total yards (64 rushing, 213 passing) in this game.  The Jets also got a huge play on special teams with Brad Smith returning a kickoff 106 yards for a TD in the third quarter.  The Jets are now 8-7 and they control their own destiny for the playoffs needing only a win over the Bengals next week.

New York Jets 7, Atlanta Falcons 10

Blogged under Game Recaps, Bloglockers, Attention Jets Fans, General by Andrew on Monday 21 December 2009 at 11:05 pm

The New York Jets (7-7) played very sloppy football against the Atlanta Falcons (7-7) and their playoff hopes are pretty much gone, now 2 games back of the Patriots.  Mark Sanchez played terrible, throwing for 226 yards, 3 interceptions and only 1 touchdown on 18/32 passes.  The kicking game was pathetic, with kicker Jay Feely missing a field goal and having another blocked, both under 40-yard attempts.  They also botched a snap on another attempt, totaling 9 points that the Jets should have had from the kicking game that they failed on.  The Jets running game did get 99 rushing yards, but it was on 33 carries for only a 3-yard average.  A very disappointing day for the Jets’ offense.

The Jets defense played well for most of the game, but they couldn’t stop the Falcons when they needed to most.  With 1:38 to go, Falcons’ quarterback Matt Ryan found Tony Gonzalez on a 6-yard touchdown pass to cap off a 73-yard drive.  The Jets held them to 238 total yards, but the Falcons’ final drive was enough to win.  The Jets were then booed and pummeled with snowballs, as 29 fans were ejected for throwing snowballs on the field.  This was a very tough loss to swallow for everyone involved with the Jets and their fans.
