The New York Jets sign CB Donald Strickland

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Monday 1 August 2011 at 6:17 pm

The New York Jets have signed 30-year old cornerback Donald Strickland.  Strickland played in all 16 games for the Chargers last year and he had 23 tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble and 2 passes defensed.  He has now played in 74 games in his first 8 years in the NFL and he has 211 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 3 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, 20 passes defensed and 2 interceptions.  Strickland will push 2nd year corner Kyle Wilson for the job in the nickel defense.  He will also help out on special teams so I like this signing for the Jets.

The New York Jets sign WR Plaxico Burress

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Monday 1 August 2011 at 1:00 pm

The Jets have signed 33-year old WR Plaxico Burress to a 1-year deal.  Burress last played in the NFL back in 2008 with the Giants.  Burress played in 10 games (9 starts) for the Giants in 2008 and he caught 35 passes for 454 yards (13.0 avg) with 4 TD grabs.  Burress has played in 128 games (121 starts) in his first 9 years in the NFL and he has caught 505 passes for 7,845 yards (15.5 avg) with 55 TD grabs.  Burress has spent the last two years in jail for accidentally shooting himself in the leg at a New York night club.  This was a good signing for the Jets as Burress is a damn good receiver when healthy and motivated.

The New York Jets sign punter Chris Bryan

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Saturday 30 July 2011 at 8:10 pm

The Jets have signed 29-year old punter Chris Bryan.  Bryan played in 4 games for the Buccaneers last season and he punted the ball 23 times for 860 yards (37.4 avg).  Bryan didn’t have any touchbacks and he pinned the opposition inside their own 20-yard line 7 times (30.4%).  Bryan is likely just going to be part of a competition for punter because if the Jets go with him, they could be in trouble.

UPDATE:  (8/31/2011) – The Jets have released Chris Bryan.

The New York Jets sign Nick Novak

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Friday 11 February 2011 at 3:23 pm

The New York Jets have signed 29-year old kicker Nick Novak.  Novak last played in 2008 with the Kansas City Chiefs.  He has played in 22 games in his NFL career and he has connected on 19 of 30 field goals (63.3%) and all 32 of his extra points, good for 89 points.  Novak was signed to give Nick Folk some competition for the kicker job in 2011.

The New York Jets cut two players

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,Leaving Town by admin on Tuesday 5 October 2010 at 2:16 pm

The Jets have released WRs David Clowney and Patrick Turner.  The Jets needed their roster spots to activate WR Santonio Holmes from his league suspension and they also re-signed NT Howard Green.  Clowney played in 3 games for the Jets this year and he had 1 catch for 22 yards.  He has played in 18 games in his three years with the Jets and he caught 16 passes for 239 yards (14.9 avg) with 1 TD grab.  Turner didn’t get into any games for the Jets this year.  31-year old Howard Green is back with the Jets.  He played in 1 game earlier this year for the Jets and he had 1 tackle and 1 forced fumble.  The Jets have been waiting for 26-year old WR Santonio Holmes who will give the Jets another big weapon in the passing game.   Holmes played in 16 games for the Steelers last year and he caught 79 passes for 1,248 yards (15.8 avg) with 5 TD grabs.

The New York Jets sign Trevor Pryce

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,Leaving Town by admin on Friday 1 October 2010 at 9:18 am

The Jets have signed 35-year old DE Trevor Pryce.  Pryce played in 16 games for the Ravens last season and he had 31 tackles, 6.5 sacks, 2 tackles for a loss and 1 forced fumble.  He has now played in 174 games in his NFL career and he has 435 tackles, 90 sacks, 25 passes defensed, 12 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions.  The Jets will likely use Pryce as a situational pass rusher.  To make room on the roster for Pryce the Jets have released 31-year old NT Howard Green.  Green played in 1 game for the Jets this year and he had 1 tackle and 1 forced fumble.  He played in 13 games in two years with the Jets and he had 24 tackles and 1 forced fumble.

The New York Jets bring back Howard Green

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page by admin on Wednesday 15 September 2010 at 10:27 pm

The New York Jets have signed 31-year old NT Howard Green.  Green played in 12 games for the Jets last season in which he had 23 tackles.  He has now played in 48 games in his NFL career and he has 78 tackles, 1 pass defensed, 1 sack and 2 forced fumbles.  Green is a mountain of a man at 6’2″, 365 pounds and he should provide depth on the interior of the D-Line for the Jets.

The New York Jets sign WR Laveranues Coles

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page by admin on Friday 30 July 2010 at 6:46 pm

The Jets have signed 32-year old WR Laveranues Coles.  Coles played in 16 games (13 starts) for the Bengals last season and he caught 43 passes for 514 yards (12.0 avg) with 5 TD grabs.  He has now played in 153 games (135 starts) in his 10 years in the NFL and he has caught 674 passes for 8,609 yards (12.8 avg) with 49 TD grabs.  He has also carried the ball 37 times for 231 yards (6.2 ypc) in his NFL career.  Coles has played 7 seasons for the Jets in his career.  He has played in 105 games (90 starts) in his career with the Jets and he has caught 459 passes for 5,941 yards (12.9 avg) with 37 TD grabs.  Coles has carried the ball 22 times for 185 yards (8.4 ypc) with the Jets.  This was a good signing for the Jets as Coles will be a very solid #3 or #4 WR for them in 2010.

The New York Jets sign Mark Brunell

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page by admin on Thursday 29 July 2010 at 8:47 am

The Jets have signed 39-year old QB Mark Brunell to a 2-year deal.  Brunell played in 16 games  (1 start) for the Saints last season and he completed 15 of 30 passes (50%) for 102 yards with 0 TD passes and 1 INT (44.0 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 4 times for -12 yards (-3.0 ypc) last season.  He has now played in 175 games (151 starts) in his NFL career and he has completed 2,753 of 4,624 passes (59.5%) for 31,928 yards with 182 TD passes and 107 INTs (83.9 QB Rating).  He has also carried the ball 513 times for 2,421 yards (4.7 ypc) with 15 TD runs in his career.  Brunell is 78-73 as a starting QB in the NFL.  He will likely bump Kellen Clemens off the roster and that would be a good thing for the Jets.

The New York Jets sign Jason Taylor

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page by admin on Tuesday 20 April 2010 at 2:32 pm

The Jets have signed 35-year old OLB/DE Jason Taylor to a 2-year, $13 million dollar deal.  Taylor played in all 16 games for the Dolphins last season and he had 42 tackles, 6 tackles for a loss, he had 7 sacks, forced 3 fumbles, he defensed 5 passes and he had 1 interception.  Taylor has now played in 201 games in his NFL career and he has made 720 tackles, defensed 86 passes, has 127.5 sacks, he has forced 44 fumbles and he has 8 interceptions (3 returned for TDs).  This was a last resort for Jason Taylor as the Jets are his old team’s (Dolphins) chief rival but money talks.  Coach Ryan will likely use him as a situational pass rusher in 2010.  I love this move for the Jets.
