The New York Jets claim safety Andrew Sendejo off waivers

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,General by admin on Monday 5 September 2011 at 3:34 pm

The Jets have claimed 23-year old safety Andrew Sendejo off waivers from the Cowboys.  Sendejo played in 2 games for the Cowboys as a rookie last year and he had 1 tackle.  He will likely have to make his mark on special teams for the Jets as they are pretty well set in the secondary for the 2011 season.

UPDATE:  (9/14/2011) – The Jets have waived Andrew Sendejo.

The New York Jets deal CB Dwight Lowery to the Jaguars

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Trades by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 8:33 pm

The Jets have dealt 25-year old CB Dwight Lowery to the Jaguars for an undisclosed draft pick.  Lowery played in 14 games for the Jets last year and he had 19 tackles, 3 interceptions (2 returned for TDs), 7 passes defensed, 2 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries.  He played in 43 games in his three years with the Jets and he had 107 tackles, 32 passes defensed, 7 interceptions (2 returned for TDs), 2 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries and 1 tackle for a loss.  I’m thinking the draft pick was too good for the Jets to pass up as the Jags really need help in the secondary.

The New York Jets acquire OG Caleb Schlauderaff from the Packers

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Trades by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 8:30 pm

The Jets have acquired 23-year old rookie offensive guard Caleb Schlauderaff from the Packers for an undisclosed draft pick.  The Packers took him in the 6th round of the 2011 NFL Draft.  Schlauderaff is 6’4″, 305 pounds and he played his college ball at Utah.  He played in all 4 of the Packers preseason games but he didn’t start any of them.  The Jets need some depth on the O-Line, so I like this deal for them.

The New York Jets release QB Drew Willy

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Sunday 4 September 2011 at 1:37 am

The Jets have released 24-year old QB Drew Willy.  Willy played in 2 preseason games for the Jets in which he completed 9 of 18 passes (50%) for 109 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 INTs (87.5 QB Rating).  He also carried the ball 10 times for 3 yards (0.3 ypc) in the preseason.  The Jets probably hope that Willy clears waivers so that they can try to stash him on the practice squad.

The New York Jets sign OLB Aaron Maybin

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Wednesday 17 August 2011 at 10:53 pm

The Jets have signed 23-year old OLB Aaron Maybin to a 1-year deal.  Maybin played in 11 games for the Bills last year and he had 6 tackles.  He has now played in 27 games in his first two years in the NFL and he has 24 tackles, 2 tackles for a loss and 1 forced fumble.  Maybin has been a bust to this point in his NFL career, but maybe Rex Ryan will spark him.  Only time will tell but the Jets aren’t paying him much money, so he might be worth taking a flier on.

UPDATE:  (9/4/2011) – The Jets have released Aaron Maybin.

UPDATE II:  (9/29/2011) – The Jets have re-signed Aaron Maybin.

The New York Jets sign WR Derrick Mason

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Sunday 7 August 2011 at 5:50 pm

The Jets have signed 37-year old WR Derrick Mason.  Mason played in 16 games (15 starts) for the Ravens last year and he caught 61 passes for 802 yards (13.1 avg) with 7 TD grabs.  He has now played in 218 games (168 starts) in his first 14 years in the NFL and he has caught 924 passes for 11,891 yards (12.9 avg) with 66 TD grabs.  Mason still has a lot left in the gas tank.  The Jets probably view Mason as the #3 WR for 2011, but I wouldn’t be shocked to see him beat out Plaxico Burress for the #2 job in training camp.  This was a great pickup for the Jets as Mason has really sticky hands.

The New York Jets sign G Trevor Canfield

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Friday 5 August 2011 at 10:52 pm

The Jets have signed 25-year old guard Trevor Canfield.  Canfield has yet to play in an NFL game in his first 2 years in the league.  He is 6’5″, 307 pounds, so he has nice size for a guard.  He was likely brought in for depth reasons only and he will have a hard time making the opening day roster.

UPDATE:  (9/3/2011) – The Jets have released Trevor Canfield.

The New York Jets release WR Jerricho Cotchery

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,General,Leaving Town by admin on Friday 5 August 2011 at 8:40 pm

The Jets have released 29-year old WR Jerricho Cotchery.  Cotchery played in 14 games (5 starts) for the Jets last year and he caught 41 passes for 433 yards (10.6 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  He played in 103 games (65 starts) in his first seven years in the NFL and he caught 358 passes for 4,514 yards (12.6 avg) with 18 TD grabs.  Cotchery also carried the ball 19 times for 79 yards (4.2 ypc) with 1 TD carry.  Cotchery helped out on special teams when called upon by the Jets.  He returned 54 punts for 484 yards (9.0 avg) and he also returned 23 kickoffs for 594 yards (25.8 avg) with 1 TD return.  Cotchery is #8 in Jets’ history in receptions with 358 of them.  He is also #9 in receiving yards with 4,514 and he is also #15 in receiving TDs with 18 of them.  It’s sad to see Cotchery go as he had a lot of big catches in his time with the Jets.

The New York Jets re-sign safety Brodney Pool

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,General by admin on Thursday 4 August 2011 at 3:22 pm

The Jets have re-signed 27-year old safety Brodney Pool.  Pool played in 15 games for the Jets last year (his first with the team) and he finished up with 53 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, 11 passes defensed and 1 interception.  Pool has now played in 86 games in his first five years in the NFL and he has 329 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss, 5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries, 46 passes defensed and 12 interceptions (1 returned for a TD).  This was a good move for the Jets as Pool played decent football for them last year.

The New York Jets sign safety DaJuan Morgan

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page,General by admin on Wednesday 3 August 2011 at 3:50 pm

The Jets have signed 25-year old safety DaJuan Morgan.  Morgan played in 2 games with the Colts last year and he had 1 tackle.  He has now played in 30 games in his first three years in the NFL and he has 42 tackles, 1 tackle for a loss and 1 fumble recovery.  Morgan was signed to provide depth in the secondary and maybe he could help them on special teams.
