The Jets have signed 28-year old cornerback Donald Strickland to a 3-year contract.  Strickland played in 14 games for the 49ers last season and he made 38 tackles, defensed 5 passes and forced 1 fumble.  He has now played in 49 games in his NFL career and he has made 162 tackles, defensed 16 passes, forced 3 fumbles and has 2 interceptions.  Strickland looks like he will be the nickel back for the Jets in 2009 and he was a good signing for the team.

The New York Jets picked two solid players last April

Blogged under Bloglockers, The Draft Report, Front Page, General by admin on Saturday 21 March 2009 at 7:11 am

In the 2008 NFL Draft the Jets selected 2 players who produced and four who did not.  The biggest bust of the draft last April has to be first round pick (OLB) Vernon Gholston.  Gholston played in 15 games (0 starts) for the Jets last season and he made 13 whole tackles.  Gholston was supposed to improve the Jets’ pass rush from the outside but did none of that.  The Jets’ other first round pick was TE Dustin Keller and he was solid in 2008.  Keller played in all 16 games (6 starts) for the Jets last season and he caught 48 passes for 535 yards (11.1 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  He also returned 1 kickoff for 9 yards.  Look for Keller to be a big part of the Jets offense for a long time.  4th rounder (CB) Dwight Lowery made the biggest impact of this draft class.  He played in all 16 games (10 starts) for the Jets last season and he made 64 tackles, forced an amazing 5 fumbles, defensed 16 passes and he had a interception.  5th round pick (QB) Erik Ainge was a huge disappointment for the Jets last season.  He didn’t play in any games and was actually suspended by the league for part of the season.  6th rounder (WR) Marcus Henry didn’t play in any games for the Jets last season and he was placed on the practice squad from week #2 until the end of the season.  7th round pick (OT) Nate Garner was released before the season started and signed by the Dolphins.

The New York Jets sign DT Howard Green

Blogged under Free Agent Additions, Bloglockers, Front Page, Attention Jets Fans, General by admin on Friday 13 March 2009 at 10:17 pm

The Jets have signed 30-year old DT Howard Green to a 1-year deal.  Green played in 13 games for the Seahawks last season and he made 21 tackles, had 1 sack and he forced 1 fumble.  He has now played in 36 games in his NFL career and he has made 55 tackles, defensed 1 pass, has 1 sack and he’s forced 2 fumbles.  The 6′2″, 320 pound Green should help the Jets’ depth on the interior of the defense.

The New York Jets sign DE Marques Douglas

The Jets have signed 31-year old DE Marques Douglas.  Douglas played in all 16 games for the Ravens last season and he made 36 tackles.  Douglas has now played in 104 games in his NFL career and he has made 372 tackles, defensed 10 passes, has 19 sacks and he has forced 6 fumbles.  He should provide good depth on defense for the Jets in 2009.

The New York Jets sign linebacker Larry Izzo

The Jets have signed 34-year old linebacker Larry Izzo.  Izzo played in all 16 games for the Patriots last season and he made 12 tackles.  He has now played in 188 games in his NFL career and he has made 172 tackles, defensed 3 passes, forced 1 fumble and he has intercepted 1 pass.  Izzo will likely be nothing more than a special teams assassin for the Jets but he’s good at that job so this was a decent little signing for the Jets.
