The New York Jets release CB/KR Justin Miller

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Attention Jets Fans, General by admin on Friday 14 November 2008 at 9:01 pm

The Jets have released 24-year old CB/KR Justin Miller to make room on the roster for Ty Law who was signed this week.  Miller only had 1 tackle this season and he only returned 1 kickoff for 22 yards.  He was replaced on special teams by Leon Washington who has been outstanding so far this season.  Miller played in 35 games in his career with the Jets and he finished up with 98 tackles and 1 forced fumble on defense.  Miller returned 6 punts for only 9 yards (1.5 avg) but his main calling with the Jets was returning kickoffs.  He returned 109 kickoffs in his career with the Jets covering 2,951 yards (27.1 avg) with 3 TD returns.  He was quickly snapped up on waivers by the Oakland Raiders.

The New York Jets will be without LB David Harris for a while

The Jets will be without starting inside linebacker David Harris indefinately with a pulled groin.  Harris has played in 7 games for the Jets this season and he has made 46 tackles and he has 1/2 a sack.  This could hurt the run defense of the Jets as Harris loves to hit running backs.

The New York Jets place a couple of players on Injured Reserve

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Attention Jets Fans, Injury Reports, General by admin on Sunday 9 November 2008 at 1:47 pm

The Jets have placed QB Erik Ainge and RB Jesse Chatman on the Injured Reserve List ending their seasons.  Ainge was the #4 QB on the Jets so they won’t miss him.  He officially has a right foot injury.  Chatman played in 3 games this season for the Jets and he carried the ball 3 times for 8 yards (2.7 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 5 yards (2.5 avg).  The Jets won’t likely miss either of these guys the rest of the season.

The New York Jets sign RB Marcus Mason

The Jets have signed running back Marcus Mason off the Ravens’ practice squad.  Mason has never played in a regular season game in the NFL but he was outstanding in the pre-season for the Redskins.  Mason played in 5 games for the Redskins in the pre-season and he carried the ball 66 times for 317 yards (4.8 ypc) and he also caught 8 passes for 56 yards (7.0 avg) with a TD grab.  This was a solid move for the Jets as Mason is a player with a nice potential upside.

New York Jets 26, Buffalo Bills 17

The Jets had a solid all around game last Sunday against the Bills and they are now tied for first place in the AFC East with a 5-3 record.  The big key to this game for the Jets was stopping the Bills’ running game and making them one dimensional on offense.  The Bills only finished up with 30 yards rushing on 17 carries (1.8 ypc).  That put a lot of pressure on Trent Edwards and he just couldn’t come through for them.  Abram Elam of the Jets returned a interception 92 yards for a TD on the last play of the first quarter helping set the defensive tone of the game.  The Jets offense was efficient but not spectacular.  Brett Favre completed 19 of 28 passes for 201 yards with a interception that was returned 42-yards for a TD by Jabari Greer of the Bills.  Thomas Jones was the workhorse for the Jets’ offense in this game as he rushed for 69 yards on 12 carries (5.8 ypc) with a TD run and he also caught 6 passes for 38 yards (6.3 avg).  This was a huge win for the Jets who can start thinking about winning the AFC East.
