New York Jets vs. Cincinnati Bengals

It appears that Carson Palmer will not be playing today due to a bum elbow and that’s awful news for the Bengals and great news for the Jets.  Ryan Fitzgerald proved earlier in this season against the Browns that he’s not ready for primetime let alone a matchup against Brett Favre.  The Jets have 13 sacks this season already and they no doubt will be bringing the house against Fitzgerald which will force him to make bad throws as he threw 3 picks in his only start this season.  Of course, it would help if the Bengals had some sort of a running game but there’s little chance of Chris Perry and Cedric Benson finding running room against a Jets’ defense that is allowing 75.5 yards rushing per game and 3.1 yards per carry.

The Jets will have the luxury of doing whatever they want on offense against the porous Bengals’ defense.  They will probably try to run a more balanced attack than usual as the Bengals are allowing 171.0 yards rushing per game and 4.5 yards per carry.  Brett Favre has to be excited about going against the Bengals who only have 3 sacks this season which should mean he has plenty of time to find open receivers.  Look for Laveranues Coles, Jerricho Cotchery and Chansi Stuckey to all have big games this week against the Bungles.

PREDICTION:  NEW YORK JETS 30, CINCINNATI BENGALS 3

The Jets’ defense was all over the Cardinals in this game as they sacked the QB 5 times and they forced 7 turnovers!  CB Dwight Lowery led the way for the Jets’ defense with 9 tackles in this game.  Linbackers Calvin Pace (6 tackles, sack, fumble recovery), David Harris (8 tackles, fumble recovery) and David Bowens (3 tackles, 2 sacks, fumble recovery) all had solid games for the Jets.  But, 2nd year CB Darrelle Revis made some game altering plays as he finished with 4 tackles and he intercepted 2 passes (one he returned 32 yards for a TD!).  The Cardinals finished up with 42 yards rushing on 15 carries (2.8 ypc) and they also completed 40 of 57 passes for 426 yards.

Brett Favre was outstanding in this football game as he completed 24 of 34 passes for 289 yards with 6 TD passes and 1 interception.  Thomas Jones had a rough time finding running room as he rushed for 46 yards on 18 carries (2.6 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 23 yards (11.5 avg).  Leon Washington was also busy with 7 carries for 26 yards (3.7 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 17 yards (4.3 avg).  Laveranues Coles had his best game of the season with 8 grabs for 105 yards (13.1 avg) with 3 TD grabs.  Jerricho Cotchery also had a nice game with 4 catches for 67 yards (16.8 avg) with 2 TD grabs.  Rookie TE Dustin Keller caught Favre’s other TD pass (24-yarder).  The Jets finished up with 89 yards rushing on 26 carries (3.4 ypc) and they also completed 24 of 34 passes for 284 yards.  The Jets are now 2-2 on the season.
