The Jets gave the Patriots a good fight which wasn’t really expected in this game.  Kellen Clemens only threw 1 pass on Sunday and it was intercepted as Clemens cracked his ribs.  Chad Pennington then replaced Clemens and he completed 25 of 38 passes for 186 yards.  Thomas Jones had another game to forget as he carried the football 9 times for 19 yards (2.1 ypc) and he caught 2 passes for 13 yards (6.5 avg).  Leon Washington had a solid game as he carried the football 4 times for 57 yards (14.3 avg) and he also caught 3 passes for 9 yards.  TE Chris Baker (8 rec, 66 yards), WR Jerricho Cotchery (6 rec, 53 yards) and Justin McCareins (5 rec, 40 yards) each had solid games against the Patriots.  The Jets finished up with 90 yards rushing on 17 carries (5.3 ypc) and they also completed 25 of 40 passes for 146 yards.

The Jets Defense was led by CB David Barrett (8 tackles), LB David Harris (8 tackles) and CB Darrelle Revis (5 tackles, interception).  The Patriots finished up with 131 yards rushing on 35 carries (3.7 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 27 passes for 134 yards.

New York Jets vs. New England Patriots

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General by admin on Thursday 13 December 2007 at 12:19 am

This game has the potential to be the biggest beat down of the season as the Patriots will be inspired again.  “Spygate” has to be in Coach Belichick’s mind and he will have his team relentless in trying to run up the score in this game.

The Jets might have a chance to keep the game closer than the 25-pointspread as long as Thomas Jones has a good game running the ball.  Teams only are averaging 99.6 yards rushing per game against the Patriots this season but they are allowing 4.3 yards per carry so the Jets should be able to run the ball some.  They need to run the ball well or the Patriots are going to bring the dogs against QB Kellen Clemens and the results will be ugly.

The Patriots will probably run the ball a tad more than usual as the Jets are allowing 141.9 yards rushing per game and 4.3 yards per carry.  So, look for Laurence Maroney to have a solid game this Sunday.  Tom Brady has been amazing this season (123.5 QB Rating) and he should have no trouble moving the football around to take advantage of the Jets secondary.

PREDICTION:  NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS 49, NEW YORK JETS 6

Cleveland Browns 24, New York Jets 18

The Jets played hard in this football game but it just wasn’t enough as they fall to 3-10 on the season.  Kellen Clemens completed 24 of 41 passes for 286 yards but he threw 2 pickoffs.  He also carried the ball 3 times for 8 yards (2.7 ypc) with a TD run.  Thomas Jones had a good game for the Jets as he carried the ball 24 times for 106 yards (4.4 ypc).  Leon Washington only rushed for 5 yards on 3 carries (1.7 ypc) but he also caught 4 passes for 31 yards (7.8 avg).  WRs Jerricho Cotchery (6 rec, 119 yards) and Laveranues Coles (7 rec, 48 yards) both had solid games against the Browns.  The Jets finished up with 119 yards rushing on 30 carries (4.0 ypc) and they also completed 24 of 41 passes for 268 yards.

David Harris (9 tackles) and Kerry Rhodes (4 tackles, interception) led the way for the Jets on defense.  The Browns finished up with 152 yards rushing on 29 carries (5.2 ypc) and they also completed 16 of 29 passes for 185 yards.
