The New York Jets shouldn’t have benched Chad Pennington

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by admin on Wednesday 28 November 2007 at 10:11 pm

The Jets have not had this horrible season because of Chad Pennington….it has been their defense which is awful!  The Jets have allowed 150.5 yards rushing per game (4.4 ypc) and they also have allowed 215.7 yards passing….and that’s unacceptable!  So, who do the Jets bench?  The QB of course!  Chad Pennington has completed 128 of 190 passes (67.4%) for 1,317 yards with 9 TD passes and 7 interceptions (87.5 QB Rating) so far this season.  The Jets have replaced Pennington with 2nd year man Kellen Clemens.  Clemens has completed 78 of 159 passes (49.1%) for 892 yards with 3 TD passes and 6 interceptions (56.9 QB Rating) so far this season.  The Jets have a tough schedule so they would be better off with Pennington starting but Mangini is too much of a hard head to see that.

Dallas Cowboys 34, New York Jets 3

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps by admin on Friday 23 November 2007 at 11:08 am

The Jets looked like they needed a few more days off to recover from there emotional win over the Steelers last Sunday as the Cowboys totally kicked their asses yesterday.  The Jets only held onto the football for 22:08 of the football game which explains why the  score was so lop sided.  Kellen Clemens looked lost in the pressure the Cowboys were applying as he only completed 12 of 27 passes for 142 yards with a interception.  Thomas Jones also had a long day as he carried the ball 17 times for 40 yards (2.4 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 17 yards (8.5 avg).  TE Chris Baker led the Jets with only 3 catches for 36 yards (12.0 avg).  The Jets finished this game with 60 yards rushing on 21 carries (2.9 ypc) and they also completed 12 of 27 passes for 120 yards.

The “defense” was led by safety Abram Elam who had 9 tackles yesterday.  The Cowboys finished up with 174 yards on 34 carries (5.1 ypc) and they also completed 21 of 28 passes for 170 yards.

New York Jets vs. Dallas Cowboys

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Thursday 22 November 2007 at 2:30 am

The Jets look like they are finally waking up as they defeated the Steelers in overtime last week and they fell in OT against Washington in the game before.  The Cowboys are looking like they are the 2nd or 3rd best team in football right now.

The Jets will likely try to run the ball a lot with Thomas Jones (723 yards rushing) and Leon Washington in an attempt to keep the ball away from the Cowboys offense.  That will be easier said than done as the Cowboys only allow 84.3 yards rushing per game and 3.6 ypc.  Kellen Clemens did make some big throws in the game last week but he must be careful against a Cowboys defense that has 15 interceptions  already this season.

The Cowboys will likely try to get the lead passing and then pound the ball on the ground to finish up the game.  Tony Rom0 (2,848 yards, 27 TDs and 12 INTs) and Terrell Owens (58 rec, 1.028 yards, 12 TD receptions) will likely be playing a game of catch all game long unless the Jets are effective in blitzing like they were last week against the Steelers.  Marion Barber and Julius Jones should both have decent games against the Jets defense which is allowing 148.2 yards rushing per game.

PREDICTION:  COWBOYS 28, JETS 17

New York Jets 19, Pittsburgh Steelers 16 in OT

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps by admin on Monday 19 November 2007 at 12:15 am

The Jets saved there best for last in this game on offense as they tied the Steelers with less than a minute left and then beat them in OT.  Kellen Clemens completed 14 of 31 passes for 162 yards with 1 TD pass and 1 interception.  He also carried the ball 1 time for 15 yards.  Thomas Jones had probably his best game of the season against the Steelers as he carried the ball 30 times for 117 yards (3.9 ypc).  Leon Washington only carried the ball 2 times for 10 yards (5.0 ypc) but he made a huge impact in overtime as he returned a punt 33-yards to set up the game-winning drive.  Chris Baker made some big catches in this game as he finished with 4 grabs for 34 yards (8.5 avg) with a TD grab.  The Jets finished with 151 yards rushing on 34 carries (4.4 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 31 passes for 146 yards.

The Jets defense played the running game on the way to the QB and that rattled the Steelers offense in this game.  Rookie linebacker David Harris led the way for the Jets with 11 tackles and a sack.  DE Shaun Ellis was outstanding in this game as he had 5 tackles, 2 sacks and a fumble recovery.  DT Dewayne Robertson was unstoppable for the Jets with 5 tackles and 2.5 sacks.  The Steelers finished up with 112 yards rushing on 33 carries (3.4 ypc) and they also completed 15 of 25 passes for 151 yards.

The New York Jets waive safety Rashad Washington

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page by admin on Wednesday 7 November 2007 at 2:25 am

The Jets have waived reserve safety Rashad Washington after his bout with special teams penalties the last couple of weeks.  He had 5 tackles this season and he will not likely be missed too much as he was pretty far down on the depth chart.

Washington Redskins 23, New York Jets 20 in OT

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps by admin on Monday 5 November 2007 at 3:55 am

The Jets played hard on special teams and offense but the defense let them down in this game….big-time.  Kellen Clemens played a solid game for the Jets as he completed 23 of 42 passes for 226 yards with 1 TD pass and 0 interceptions.  He also carried the ball 7 times for 48 yards (6.9 ypc).  Thomas Jones had another so-so game as he carried the ball 13 times for 49 yards (3.8 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 16 yards.  Leon Washington was also busy as he carried the ball 4 times for 13 yards (3.3 ypc) and he also caught 4 passes for 18 yards (4.5 avg).  But it was Washington’s 86 yard kickoff return for a TD that opened the scoring in this game for the Jets.  Jerricho Cotchery (5 rec, 90 yards) and Chris Baker (4 rec, 42 yards) did most of the work in the passing game.  The Jets finished with 124 yards rushing on 26 carries (4.8 ypc) and they also completed 23 of 42 passes for 214 yards.

David Harris had an amazing game for the Jets as he led the way with 24 tackles.  Eric Barton also had a decent game with 8 tackles, a sack and a interception.  The Redskins finished up with 296 yards rushing on 48 carries (6.2 ypc) and they also completed 12 of 23 passes for 135 yards.

The New York Jets replace Chad Pennington as the starting QB

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page by admin on Friday 2 November 2007 at 12:27 pm

The Jets have decided to replace Chad Pennington as the starting QB.  Pennington has been made the scapegoat for a team that has a ton of issues.  Pennington has completed 128 of 190 passes (67.4%) for 1,317 yards with 9 TD passes and 7 interceptions (87.5 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 17 times for 23 yards (1.4 ypc) with 1 TD run.  2nd year man Kellen Clemens will take over as the starting QB and the team needs him to improve quickly.  Clemens has completed 29 of 59 passes (49.2%) this season for 362 yards with 1 TD pass and 4 interceptions (46.0 QB Rating).  He also has carried the ball 3 times for 2 yards (0.7 ypc).

The New York Jets place Jonathan Vilma on I.R.

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by admin on Friday 2 November 2007 at 12:21 pm

The Jets have placed linebacker Jonathan Vilma on the Injured Reserve List with a right knee injury.  Vilma finished the season with 43 tackles and a interception.  Vilma will be replaced by rookie David Harris who’s off to an outstanding start to his career for the Jets.  Harris has made 42 tackles this season and he has a sack.

Buffalo Bills 13, New York Jets 3

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps by admin on Friday 2 November 2007 at 1:47 am

The Jets hit rock bottom in this game as the Bills completely shut them down.  Chad Pennington completed 13 of 20 passes for 106 yards before he got benched.  Kellen Clemens followed and he was pathetic as he completed 5 of 12 passes for 67 yards with 2 interceptions.  Thomas Jones carried the ball 16 times for 70 yards (4.4 ypc) and he also caught 5 passes for 34 yards (6.8 avg).  Jerricho Cotchery led the way for the receiving corps as he caught 5 passes for 47 yards (9.4 avg).  The Jets finished with 100 yards rushing on 23 carries (4.3 ypc) and they also completed 18 of 32 passes for 154 yards.

Rookies David Harris (17 tackles, sack) and Darrelle Revis (6 tackles, INT) both played great games against the Bills.  The Bills finished with 108 yards rushing on 35 carries (3.1 ypc) and they also completed 17 of 26 passes for 239 yards.

Cincinnati Bengals 38, New York Jets 31

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Game Recaps by admin on Thursday 1 November 2007 at 12:47 pm

The Jets really choked in this game as they were winning it 23-10 with 11:15 left in the 3rd quarter…but then the roof caved in.  Chad Pennington completed 20 of 31 passes for 272 yards with 3 TD passes and 1 interception (which was returned 42 yards for a TD by the Bengals).  Thomas Jones didn’t run well enough for the Jets to work the clock with the lead as he carried the ball 19 times for 67 yards (3.5 ypc).  Laveranues Coles led the receiving corps with 8 grabs for 133 yards (16.6 avg) with 2 TD catches.  Jerricho Cotchery also had a good game with 6 catches for 60 yards (10.0 avg) with 1 TD catch.  The Jets finished up with 84 yards rushing on 26 carries (3.2 ypc) and they completed 20 of 31 passes for 258 yards.

Safety Abram Elam led the way on the defense with 8 tackles.  The Bengals rushed for 177 yards on 41 carries (4.3 ypc) and they also completed 14 of 21 passes for 218 yards.
