New York Jets vs. New York Giants

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, This Week's Matchup Report, General by dawgpounded on Friday 5 October 2007 at 4:47 pm

This is a big game for both teams.  The Jets are a surprising 1-3 and they were shredded last week by a rookie QB making his first NFL start.  The Giants have seem to gotten back on the right track as they have fixed up the defense.  The defense allowed 80 points in the first two weeks (both losses) but they have only allowed 20 points in the last two weeks which were both wins.

The Jets look like they might be in some trouble in this matchup as they have been having offensive line problems and the Giants had 12 sacks against Donovan McNabb last week who is much more mobile than Chad Pennington.  With that in mind look for the Jets to run the football and throw short passes for the receivers.  Thomas Jones has been a disappointment so far this season for the Jets as he has 254 yards rushing (3.4 ypc) but the Giants allow 105.3 yards rushing per game and 3.9 yards per carry so look for the Jets to try out the running game.  Chad Pennington (105.8 QB Rating) will have to get rid of the ball fast against a Giants defense that has 16 sacks already this season.  Jerricho Cotchery (26 rec, 382 yards) and Laveranues Coles (24 rec, 211 yards) will have to make some big plays over the middle because the Jets won’t likely have much time to throw the ball.

The Jets defense is really bad against the pass and that’s bad news when playing the Giants.  The Jets are allowing 253.0 yards passing per game so Eli Manning (890 yards passing) will likely spread the football around to Plaxico Burress (19 rec, 286 yards, 6 TDs), Amani Toomer (19 rec, 217 yards) and TE Jeremy Shockey (16 rec, 197 yards) and the Jets will have problems stopping them.  Brandon Jacobs is ready to return to work and that is bad news for the Jets defense that is allowing 112.5 yards rushing per game.  Jacobs is a bully and he will try to bring the pain to the Jets defense.

PREDICTION:  The Giants almost win every matchup in this football game and they are playing much better than the Jets.  Look for the Giants to win this game by 7-10 points.

The New York Jets will likely be without strong safety Erik Coleman this week

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Attention Jets Fans, Injury Reports, General by dawgpounded on Thursday 4 October 2007 at 4:01 pm

The New York Jets will be likely without starting strong safety Erik Coleman for this weekend’s clash with the Giants.  He is still recovering from a concussion.  Coleman has 29 tackles already this season for the Jets.  He will be replaced in the starting lineup by Eric Smith who has 4 tackles this season.

The New York Jets sign rookie WR David Clowney off the Packers practice squad

Blogged under Free Agent Additions, Bloglockers, Front Page, Attention Jets Fans, General by dawgpounded on Wednesday 3 October 2007 at 8:02 pm

The Jets have signed WR/KR David Clowney off the Packers practice squad.  He hasn’t played in a regular season game but he caught 5 passes for 32 yards (6.4 avg) in the pre-season and he aslo returned 4 kickoffs for 66 yards (16.5 avg).  He will give the Jets depth at WR and he might be able to help them on special teams.
