New York Giants 35, New York Jets 24
Too bad this game wasn’t only three quarters because the Jets were the better team until…..the 4th quarter. The Jets gave up an 8 play, 98 yard drive in the final stanza and Chad Pennington completed a pass to rookie CB Aaron Ross on the Giants that he returned 43 yards for a TD to finish the scoring in this football game. QB Chad Pennington had a rough game as he completed 21 of 36 passes for 229 yards with 1 TD pass and 3 interceptions. Thomas Jones had another poor game as he carried the ball 13 times for 36 yards (2.8 ypc) and he also caught 2 passes for 14 yards. Laveranues Coles led all Jets receivers with 8 receptions for 89 yards (11.1 avg) and Brad Smith (3 rec, 44 yards, TD) also had a solid game. The Jets finished up with 55 yards rushing on 25 carries (2.2 ypc) and they have completed 21 of 36 passes for 222 yards.
The defense was awful again yesterday but it’s hard to blame safety Kerry Rhodes for that as he led the Jets with 9 tackles and he returned a fumble 11 yards for a TD in the first quarter. Still, the Giants rushed for 188 yards on 39 carries (4.8 ypc) and they completed 13 of 25 passes for 186 yards.
A bright spot for the Jets was Leon Washington who returned 3 kickoffs for 155 yards (51.7 avg) including a 98-yard return for a TD. He also returned 2 punts for 20 yards.
