Chad Pennington is likely OUT for Sunday’s Jets game

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page,Injury Reports by dawgpounded on Thursday 13 September 2007 at 10:37 pm

Chad Pennington hasn’t really been able to practice on his injured ankle this week and it’s looking very likely that he will sit out this week’s game in Baltimore against the Ravens.  Pennington played well against the Patriots as he completed 16 of 21 passes (76.2%) for 167 yards with 2 TD passes and 0 interceptions (130.5 QB Rating).  Enter Kellen Clemens who is the likely starting QB against the Ravens.  Clemens completed 5 of 10 passes (50%) for 35 yards against the Patriots after he relieved Pennington.  Clemens had an outstanding pre-season for the Jets as he completed 30 of 41 passes (73.2%) for 364 yards with 4 TD passes and 2 interceptions (112.2 QB Rating).  It will be interesting to see how Clemens handles facing live bullets against an outstanding Baltimore Ravens defense.

New England Patriots 38, New York Jets 14

The Jets never had a chance against the new and improved New England Patriots.  Chad Pennington played a good football game despite hurting himself as he completed 16 of 21 passes for 167 yards with 2 TD throws.  He left the football game because of an ankle injury as the Jets fans cheered.  You should be ashamed of yourselves as this guy led a bad football team to the playoffs last season.  Kellen Clemens followed Pennington into the game and he completed 5 of 10 passes for 35 yards.  Thomas Jones was supposed to bring balance to the offense but he only rushed for 42 yards on 14 carries (3.0 ypc).  Laveranues Coles had a solid game for the Jets with 7 catches for 59 yards (8.4 avg) and Jerricho Cotchery added 6 catches for 57 yards (9.5 avg). The Jets finished with only 60 yards rushing on 19 carries (3.2 ypc) and they completed 21 of 31 passes for 167 yards.

The Jets defense was absolutely horrid but you can’t blame that on DE Kenyon Coleman who led the team with 12 tackles.  The Patriots ran the football 37 times for 134 yards (3.6 ypc) and they completed 22 of 28 passes for 297 yards.

The over/under for New York Jets wins is 8 for 2007

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,If I Were a Betting Man,Vegas Lines by dawgpounded on Saturday 8 September 2007 at 10:01 pm

I think the way to go on this is to take the over.  The Jets are getting no respect in the line as the bookies and Las Vegas are treating them like flukes.  But, I think the Jets really improved the offense with the trade for running back Thomas Jones who will make Chad Pennington’s play action passes lethal this season.  Take the over.

New York Jets vs. New England Patriots

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by dawgpounded on Friday 7 September 2007 at 8:20 pm
The New England Patriots love to play in the Meadowlands as they have covered the pointspread against the Jets 8 straight times there. You have to wonder if the Patriots are in the Jets heads at this point. The Jets have a poor pass rush and they couple that with below average CB play and you have a recipe for disaster against the Patriots. The Patriots prefer to mix up the playbook but they have to like their chances with Tom Brady throwing the ball down the field to Randy Moss, Donte’ Stallworth and Wes Welker. Welker will also go over the middle for a pass as he is truly fearless and Brady will look for him. The Jets safeties (SS Kerry Rhodes and FS Erik Coleman) are the playmakers of the secondary but look for Brady to attack them with TE Ben Watson. The Patriots will also attack the inside of the Jets defense in the running game with Laurence Maroney and Sammy Morris running behind LG Logan Mankins, C Dave Koppen and RG Stephen Neal. The Jets will need good efforts out of NT Dewayne Robertson and ILBs Jonathan Vilma and Eric Barton to stop the power game. OLBs Victor Hobson and Bryan Thomas must contain the running game and keep it away from the sideline.

The Jets were foolish in how they handled the Pete Kendall situation at LG and they will likely go with rookie Jacob Bender from Nicholls State. His welcome to the NFL will be rude with NT Vince Wilford staring him in the face for most of the football game. C Nick Mangold and LT D’Brickashaw Ferguson must help Bender out while Ferguson will have to also worry about RDE Jarvis Green. LDE Ty Warren is a rising player and he will be homing in of Chad Pennington’s chest all game long. The Jets will likely try to run the football with Thomas Jones and Leon Washington on the outside of the defense where OLBs Roosevelt Colvin and Mike Vrabel roam. Still, that would be an easier task than dealing with Tedy Bruschi and Adalius Thomas on the inside. Look for Pennington to go to his receivers often if he gets enough time to throw the football as Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery both had solid seasons in 2006 for the Jets.

This game features 4 electric return men so that could be a huge factor in this football game. For the Jets…Justin Miller will return kickoffs and rookie Darelle Revis will return punts. Either of those guys can score from anywhere on the football field. Ellis Hobbs (KR) and Wes Welker (PR) also are a threat to go the distance on any kick.

PREDICTION: This will be a good football game but the Patriots defense will stop the Jets at key points in the football game giving them the victory.

The New York Jets release a couple players

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Wednesday 5 September 2007 at 5:49 pm

The Jets have released WR Frisman Jackson and LB Anthony Schlegel.  Jackson had a solid pre-season with 5 catches for 74 yards (14.8 avg) but the Jets liked some of their other young receivers more than him.  The Jets also figured that Schlegel was going to be a bust so they cut their ties with him.  He had 7 tackles and a fumble recovery this pre-season but he played in 4 games with the Jets last season and he only made 1 lousy tackle.

The New York Jets release DE Kimo Von Oelhoffen

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Wednesday 5 September 2007 at 12:12 am

The Jets have released DE Kimo Von Oelhoffen because they had better options at the position.  Von Oelhoffen played in all 16 games last season for the Jets and he made 28 tackles, defensed one pass and had one sack.  The Jets will not miss him at all as his days as a productive football player appear over.

The New York Jets release RB Danny Ware

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Tuesday 4 September 2007 at 9:02 pm

The Jets have released undrafted running back Danny Ware despite the fact that he led the team in rushing.  Ware has carried the football 50 times for 183 yards (3.7 ypc) with 1 TD run and he also caught 3 passes for 24 yards (8.0 avg).  Ware getting cut proves that life is not always fair as he deserved to make the Jets final roster.
