The New York Jets sign DE David Bowens

The Jets have signed DE David Bowens to a three-year contract.  He played in 16 games for the Dolphins last season and he made 20 tackles, had 5 sacks, defensed a pass and recovered 2 fumbles.  This was a good move for the Jets as they continue to build up on defense.

The New York Jets sign QB Marques Tuiasosopo

Blogged under Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page by dawgpounded on Sunday 25 March 2007 at 1:14 am

The Jets will give Tuiasosopo a chance to battle second year man Kellen Clemens for the backup QB spot on the Jets.  He played in 2 games for the Oakland Raiders last season and he completed 6 of 13 passes (46.2%) for 68 yards with 1 TD pass and 2 interceptions (48.4 QB Rate).  He also carried the football 4 times for 29 yards (7.3 ypc).  The Jets better hope that Clemens can beat out Tuiasosopo or the Jets will need to get another QB of the future.

The New York Jets sign DE Michael Haynes

Michael Haynes was a first round pick in the 2003 Draft by the Chicago Bears but he has been a huge disappointment for them.  He didn’t even play in the NFL last season.  He has played 42 games in his NFL career and he has 49 tackles and 5 sacks.  The Jets will give him a shot to rebuild his NFL career.

The Jets re-sign OT Wade Smith

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Sunday 11 March 2007 at 12:03 am

The Jets have re-signed the 6’8″, 315 pound tackle Wade Smith.  Smith will likely be a back up for the Jets as he played in 7 games for them last season but he didn’t start any of them.  Smith is a good enough player to start if the Jets needed him to and he will provide good depth for them in 2007.

The Jets sign fullback Darian Barnes

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page by dawgpounded on Friday 9 March 2007 at 12:53 am

Barnes played in 16 games (6 starts) for the Miami Dolphins last season and he caught 3 passes for 22 yards (7.3 avg).  Barnes likes to block and he will get the chance to open up holes for Thomas Jones to run through this season.

The Jets bring in a couple of Defensive Ends

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Free Agent Additions,Front Page by dawgpounded on Tuesday 6 March 2007 at 7:16 pm

The Jets signed free agent Keyon Coleman and brought back Bobby Hamilton.  Coleman played in all 16 games last season for the Dallas Cowboys and he made 30 tackles, had 4 sacks, defensed 2 passes and forced a fumble.  He likely will battle Hamilton for a starting job.  Hamilton played in all 16 games last season for the Jets and he made 30 tackles, defensed a pass and recovered a fumble.

The Jets acquire RB Thomas Jones from the Chicago Bears

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Tuesday 6 March 2007 at 1:15 am

The Jets traded the #37 pick in the 2007 NFL Draft to the Bears for RB Thomas Jones and the #63 pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.  This was a great trade for the Jets as they got a solid running back which fills one of the biggest holes on their roster.  Jones started all 16 games last season for the Bears and he carried the ball 296 times for 1,210 yards (4.1 ypc) with 6 TD runs.  He also caught 36 passes for 154 yards (4.3 avg).  Jones will make the whole Jets offense better this season.  With the threat of a running game, Chad Pennington should have a much better season throwing the football.

The Jets release QB Patrick Ramsey

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Friday 2 March 2007 at 10:35 pm

Ramsey only attempted 1 pass last season (it was incomplete).  The Jets like Kellen Clemens much better than Ramsey so they decided to cut their losses.  It’s possible the Jets could sign a veteran quarterback so that they can ease Clemens along for another season as the #3 QB.

The Jets cut a couple of veterans

Blogged under Attention Jets Fans,Bloglockers,Front Page by dawgpounded on Thursday 1 March 2007 at 11:50 pm

The Jets have cut defensive lineman Bobby Hamilton and running back Derrick Blaylock.  Hamilton is getting up in age as he will be 36 before next season starts.  He played in 16 games last season and made 30 tackles, defensed a pass and recovered a fumble.  The Jets want to get bigger along the defensive front and they will try to do that either in free agency or the draft.  Derrick Blaylock was a huge disappointment for the Jets.  They gave him a chance early in the season as he played in 4 games (2 starts) and he carried the football 25 times for 44 yards (1.8 ypc).  He also caught 5 passes for 29 yards (5.8 avg).  Neither of these players is much of a loss for the Jets who will be able to replace both of them easily.
