New York Jets vs. Buffalo Bills

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 8 December 2006 at 10:28 pm

The Bills have played better lately as they’ve won two of their last three games.  The Jets have won 3 of their last 4 games and have their sites on the playoffs.

When the Bills have the football, look for them to run Willis McGahee (668 yards rushing) and Anthony Thomas (310 yards rushing) and the soft Jets run defense.  The Jets are allowing 136.3 yards rushing per game and 4.6 yards per carry.  After the Bills establish their running game, look for JP Losman to attack the Jets secondary deep with Lee Evans (65 rec, 925 yards).

The Jets will also come out of the tunnel running the football against the Bills who allow 140.3 yards rushing and 4.8 yards per carry on the season.  Cedric Houston will probably get the bulk of the carries for the Jets as he has been stepping up his play of late.  The Bills secondary has been having problems at corner and they start two rookie safeties, so look for Chad Pennington to run alot of play-action to try to trick them and then go deep to Jerricho Cotchery (60 rec, 765 yards) and Laveranues Coles (71 rec, 854 yards).

The Jets won the first game between these teams 28-20 in Buffalo.  I would think that the Jets will win another close game with the Bills.

Jets punish the Packers 38-10

This game was never close as the Jets raced out to a 31-0 halftime lead and then cruised to victory.  Chad Pennington played great, completing 25 of 35 passes for 263 yards with 2 TDs and 2 INTs.  Cedric Houston got the bulk of the carries in the running game and put up some numbers.  Houston carried the ball 22 times for 105 yards (4.8 ypc) and 2 TDs.  Houston also caught 3 passes for 24 yards.  Leon Washington also ran well as he had 7 carries for 40 yards (5.7 ypc) and a TD.  He also caught 2 passes for 26 yards.  Brad Smith only had one carry…..for 32 yards, he also caught 2 passes for 14 yards.  Jerricho Cotchery led the WRs with 9 receptions for 99 yards and a TD.  TE Chris Baker had a decent game with 4 grabs for 50 yards and a TD.

The Jets defense gave up alot of yards, but not many points.  The Packers ran the ball 23 times for 149 yards (6.5 ypc). The Packers completed 24 of 47 passes for 202 net yards passing.

This was a huge win for the Jets who are now legitimate playoff contenders in the AFC.

New York Jets vs. Green Bay Packers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 1 December 2006 at 8:45 pm

The Jets won last week and are now 5-1 against teams with losing records…..which is what Green Bay is.  The Packers have lost the last two games and have been outscored 69-24 in those games.

The Jets would like to run the ball against the Packers, who allow 111.9 yards rushing and 3.9 yards per carry, but the Jets really don’t have much of a running game.  Leon Washington, Kevan Barlow and Cedric Houston have not played well.  That means that pressure will be on Chad Pennington to produce from the get-go.  Pennington should have a good day as long as the Jets’ O-Line keeps him clean.  That is easier said than done against the Packers.  Aaron Kampman (10 sacks) and Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (5 sacks) are the guys the tackles have to keep off Pennington.  Laveranues Coles (68 rec, 826 yards) and Jerricho Cotchery (51 rec, 666 yards) could have big games.

The Packers would love to get Ahman Green (688 yards rushing) going against a poor Jets run defense that allows 135.2 yards rushing and 4.4 yards per carry on the season.  As soon as the ground game is established, look for Brett Favre to unleash Donald Driver (60 rec, 895 yards) and Greg Jennings on the Jets secondary.  The Jets allow 216.3 net yards passing per game.

This is a pretty even football game.  I would think the QB that makes the least mistakes will win this football game.
