Jets need a lot of work during bye week

The Jets are 4-4 because of the weak schedule they have played this season.  The second half will be much tougher, so the Jets had better work on their running game on offense.  Leon Washington has run the ball well as a rookie, but Kevan Barlow had been a huge disappoinment.  The Jets need to run the ball better so that they can protect Chad Pennington (whose arm is looking a little weak) and their horrible defense.  It usually takes time to adjust to the 3-4 defense, but this is getting ridiculous.  The Jets are allowing 143.0 yards rushing and 4.4 yards per carry.  The Jets pass defense has been nothing to write home about either, allowing 216.1 net yards passing per game.

I totally agree with you on this. The Jets running game hasn’t been the same since Curtis Martin got hurt last seaon. The pick up of Barlow to replace him was one of the stupidest things they could have done. He has not produced like they expected him too, but the rookie Washington has made a name for himself if Martin is actually done for good. Chad’s arm has held up good so far, but if the running game steps up he might make it through the entire season. The easy games are all behind them, and we play the Patriots, Bears, Viking to name a few which will be a chanllege for them. The road is tough, but if they get it going on both sides of the ball they may end up with a winning record at the end of the season. Go-Jets 9-7

I think part of the problem in regards to Curtis Martin is that at draft time it looked like he would be ready for the season. If they knew he wouldn’t be able to play they could have drafted a RB in the 2nd or 3rd round instead of waiting until the 5th round. That being said, Leon Washington has done a good job despite being so little.
