Jets look good in Mangini’s first game winning 23-16

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 11 September 2006 at 7:01 pm

Coach Mangini did a good job Sunday in getting his first win as an NFL coach.  Chad Pennington looked like he never even hurt his shoulder.  Pennington completed 24 of 33 passes (72.7%) for 319 yards and 2 TDs.  The running game never really got going for the Jets.  RB Derrick Blaylock had 19 carries for 36 yards (1.9 ypc).  Kevan Barlow had 11 carries for 35 yards (3.2 ypc) and a TD.  WR Laveranues Coles had a great game catching 8 passes for 153 yards (19.1 avg).  Jerricho Cotchery caught 6 passes for 65 yards (10.8 avg) and a TD.  TE Chris Baker caught 4 passes for 34 yards (8.5 avg) and a TD.

The Jets defense played tough on Sunday.  LB Jonathan Vilma picked up where he left off last year and had 12 tackles. LB Eric Barton chipped in 9 tackles.  CB Andre Dyson picked-off 2 passes and safety Kerry Rhodes intercepted one too.  The Jets D held the Titans to 86 yards rushing on 3.4 yards per carry.  The Jets allowed the Titans to only complete 47.6% of their passes for 242 net yards in the air, but the Jets picked-off 3 Titans passes.

Jets Punting

Hi all, im an Australian trying to get some info on the progress being made by one of our footballers who went to the Jets to punt last season……Ben Graham . Just hoping someone could fill me in on how his first season went and his prospects for this season. Obviously we get news of it here, but generally im guessing its pretty biased. So im after some feedback from the Jets fans. Thanks

Jets vs. Titans

Click here to see if the Jets are favored

The Jets will probably try to expose the weak Titans defense (except for Keith Bulluck) against the run.  The improved Jets’ offensive line will try to get a good push for the lackluster stable of backs that the Jets employ.  Derrick Blaylock will get the first shot, but Cedric Houston and Kevan Barlow will probably get some carries too.  Laveranues Coles is the only receiver on the team that can stretch the field, but Chad Pennington doesn’t have the arm strength to throw deep anymore.  Look for the Titans to stack the box and make Pennington beat them with his arm.

The Titans haven’t revealed who their starting QB will be, but I think it will be Kerry Collins.  Collins has a big arm, but he forces alot of passes into coverage and turns the ball over frequently.  Travis Henry will be the starting running back, but Chris Brown and LenDale White will also get their carries.  The Titans used their tight-ends alot in their offense last season, but with Collins aboard….it looks as if the wide-outs will be the main targets in the passing game.  David Givens has been gimpy as of late, but the Titans need him to keep coverage away from Drew Bennett.

If forced to pick a winner in this game, I would go with the Jets because I think they will protect the football better.

Eric Mangini

Coach Mangini has never been a head coach at the NFL and has only been a co-ordinator one season…..last year he was defensive co-ordinator for the Patriots.  This re-building job could take a while.
