Jets vs. Colts

Blogged under Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Thursday 28 September 2006 at 9:08 pm

Look for the Colts to try to run the ball more this week than they have been.  Peyton Manning could be without Reggie Wayne (due to the death of his brother) so look for the Colts to play it safe.  Joseph Addai (123 yards) and Dominic Rhodes (114 yards) should find running room against a defense that is allowing 134.0 yards rushing per game.  Look for the Jets to double cover Marvin Harrison (22 rec, 334 yards) all day if Wayne doesn’t play.

The Jets will try to run a balanced offense against a Colts defense that gives up alot of yards rushing (161.7 yards per game) and allows the opposition to be effective passing (92.7 opponents QB Rating).  Look for the Jets to come out trying to run the ball with Kevan Barlow (108 yards) and Leon Washington.  If they can establish a running game, Chad Pennington will run play-action passes and take shots deep to Lauveranues Coles (24 rec, 331 yards) and Jerricho Cotchery (15 rec, 219 yards).

I like the Colts to win a close game, but wouldn’t be shocked if the Jets pull an upset.

Jets make Bills pay for mistakes in 28-20 win

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 25 September 2006 at 11:57 pm

The Jets took care of the football and made plays when they had to. Chad Pennington completed 19 of 29 passes for 183 yards and a TD. Kevan Barlow ran the ball 12 times for 31 yards and a TD. Leon Washington carried the ball 7 times for 25 yards and caught 2 passes for 52 yards. Cedric Houston had 2 carries for 10 yards and a TD. Lavernues Coles caught 10 passes for 78 yards. Jerricho Cotchery caught 3 passes for 33 yards. TE Chris Baker caught 3 passes for 15 yards and a TD.

Jonathan Vilma led the defense with 10 tackles. Safety Kerry Rhodes had a good game with 8 tackles and 2 sacks. The defense got pushed around a little bit in the running game. The Bills ran the ball 31 times for 169 yards (5.5 ypc). The Bills also completed 56.4% of their passes for 306 net yards thru the air. The Jets did beat up JP Losman and recovered two of his fumbles and intercepted 1 of his passes.

The Jets are looking good under Coach Mangini.

Jets need to find a running game

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Saturday 23 September 2006 at 11:15 am

The Jets need to find a running game or they will face defenses that start lining up more defense backs to stop Chad Pennington and the aerial attack of the Jets. The Jets are only averaging 71 yards per game rushing and only 2.4 yards per carry. RB Kevan Barlow is the most likely back to step up, but he only has 77 yards and is averaging 3.1 yards per carry this season.

Jets vs. Bills

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Wednesday 20 September 2006 at 10:57 pm

The winner of this game could be tied for first place by the end of Sunday, if the Patriots lose to the Broncos.  These two teams have very contrasting offenses, the Bills like to run and the Jets prefer to throw the ball.

Look for the Jets to try to run the ball early in the game.  Kevan Barlow will get his big shot in this game against the Bills porous run defense that’s allowing 137.5 rushing yards per game.  If the Jets can run at all, Chad Pennington will use play-action passing to attack the Bills rookie safeties.  WRs Lauvernues Coles (253 yards rec.) and Jerricho Cotchery (186 yards rec.) will seriously test the Bills secondary.

The Bills are very conservative on offense.  RB Willis McGahee (161 yards rushing) will be the key to the Bills winning this game.  If McGahee can move the chains and keep the Jets offense off the field, it will shorten the game.  All Losman will have to do then is manage the game and try to avoid mistakes.  It will be easier said than done against Jonathan Vilma and the rest of the Jets defense.

I think the Jets will win this game simply because they are the better team.

Jets almost pull upset, lose 24-17

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Monday 18 September 2006 at 6:52 pm

The Jets were losing 17-0 before the light went on, and they almost came all the way back.  Chad Pennington had another real strong game, completing 22 of 37 passes (59.5%) for 306 yards with 2 TDs and an interception.  Kevan Barlow carried the ball 14 times for 42 yards (3.0 ypc).  WR Jerricho Cotchery caught 6 passes for 121 yards (20.2 avg) and a TD.  Cotchery’s TD catch was the best play of the year in the NFL so far.  Laveranues Coles caught 6 passes for 100 yards (16.7 avg) and a TD.  Justin McCareins caught 4 passes for 51 yards (12.8 avg).

The defense had trouble stopping the Patriots in the first half but played better in the 2nd half.  The Patriots ran for 147 yards, but only 3.8 yards per carry.  The Jets allowed the Pats to complete 51.7% of their passes for 211 net yards in the air.

The Jets are improving very quickly.

Jets sign OL Wade Smith

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page by ravenhater on Friday 15 September 2006 at 5:30 pm

Wade Smith was signed by the New York Jets in the wake of Pete Kendall’s injury.  Smith is very versatile as he can play any position on the line.

Jets vs. Patriots

Blogged under Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report by ravenhater on Friday 15 September 2006 at 12:28 am

The Patriots unleashed a powerful running attack on the Buffalo Bills last week, rolling up 183 yards on the ground.  Look for Laurence Maroney and Corey Dillon to attack the interior of the Jets defense.  Also look for Tom Brady to throw the ball more frequently this week.  The Patriots really don’t have a deep threat to run play-action off of, but Brady should be able to complete a ton of short passes to multiple receivers this week.

The Jets would like to run the ball, but Derrick Blaylock, Kevan Barlow and Cedric Houston will have rough sledding against the interior of the Pats’ defense.  Chad Pennington will try to duplicate his performance of last week against the Titans, but it will be tougher for him against the Patriots secondary.

I look for the Jets to play a tough game, but the Patriots are still vastly superior talen-wise to the Jets and it will show on the scoreboard.

Kendall pulled a hamstring on Sunday and could be out awhile.  Norm Katnik or Trey Teague will start in his place in week #2.
