Current Jets odds

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, If I Were a Betting Man by ravenhater on Tuesday 29 August 2006 at 7:59 pm

The over/under for Jets wins is 6.  The Jets are currently 100-1 to win the Super Bowl and 45-1 to win the AFC.

The suggestion here is to keep your money in your pocket.  I project the Jets to win six games.

Jets look horrible again on Friday in 13-7 loss to Giants

The Jets would have been shut-out if not for linebacker Darrell McClover’s 26 yard return of a blocked punt in the 4th quarter.  The Jets offense was terrible, but at least Chad Pennington returned and left the game intact.  Pennington completed 11 of 20 passes for 125 yards and a pick-off.  Kellen Clemens then entered the game and was completely overmatched.  Clemens only completed 3 of 11 passes for 24 yards and a pick-off, he did scramble twice for 15 yards.  The Jets only completed 45.2% of their passes for 110 net yards.  The Jets only ran the ball 19 times for 74 yards (3.9 ypc).

The defense of the Jets just couldn’t get off the field.  The defense actually played pretty well, but were at a huge disadvantage because of their own inept offense that couldn’t put any drives together.  The Jets defense was on the field for 36:28 of the game.  The Giants rushed for 138 yards against the Jets, but only averaged 3.5 ypc.  The Giants only completed 53.1% of their passes for a net of 155 yards.

The good defensive effort was wasted by the Jets inept offense.

The Jets have a long ways to go

The Jets are 1-1 in the pre-season, but on the field they have a long way to go.  The Jets have averaged 130.0 yards rushing per game on an outstanding 4.6 yards per carry, and now they add Kevan Barlow to the attack.  The Jets are really having a hard time passing the ball down the field.  The Jets have dink and dunked their way to 116.0 passing per game, but have completed 65.0% of their passes.

The defense has been a little shaky.  The Jets have given up 125.5 yards rushing per game, but only 3.9 yards per carry.  The Jets only give up 181.5 yards passing per game, but opponents have been completed 61.4% of their passes.  It almost seems as if the Jets are trying to run the ball and throw short passes on offense to keep their defense off the field.

Jets pound the Redskins 27-14 Saturday

No Chad Pennington or Curtis Martin?  No problem (LOL), at least not on Saturday.  The Jets got a good look at their running backs, as they carried the ball 41 times for 216 yards rushings against the Skins.  WR Brad Smith ran a trick play that went for a 61 yard TD.  Cedric Houston looked strong rushing 14 times for 53 yards.  Derrick Balylock chipped in 10 carries for 46 yards.  Rookie Leon Washington was all over the place, he carried the ball 6 times for 17 yards, caught 3 passes for 23 yards, and had a 87-yard kick-off return for a TD.

The quarterbacks were playing it safe.  Ramsey completed 6 of 9 passes for 33 yards.  Brooks Bollinger completed 10 of 16 passes for 69 yards and rushed 5 times for 35 yards.  Rookie Kellen Clemens was 2 for 4 for 2 yards and a TD.

The Jets held the ball for 37:31 of the game, and the Skins tried to pass alot to catch up….but it didn’t work.  The Jets held the Redskins to 84 yards on 20 carries, and the Skins completed 21 of 37 passes for a total of 225 yards net passing.

Kevan Barlow acquired from 49ers

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Attention Jets Fans by ravenhater on Sunday 20 August 2006 at 6:39 pm

Kevan Barlow was acquired by the Jets from the San Francisco 49ers…….pending a physical.  This is a good trade for the Jets as it was for an undisclosed draft pick in the 2007 draft.  Barlow could be the starter by week one if he shows well in the rest of the pre-season and he picks up the offense quick in practice.
