Jets game to bet

The Jets have done very well when playing the Vikings, so I think I’ll take the Jets and the points on December 17th.  The Jets are 4-0 ATS the last four meetings against the Vikings and the Vikings just aren’t gonna be very good.  The chances of Brad Johnson starting that deep in the season are not good.

QB Position Up for Grabs…..

This August will be very interesting for the NY Jets.  The Jets traded for Patrick Ramsey and drafted Kellen Clemens in the second round of the NFL draft to insure themselves against Chad Pennington’s balky body.  Pennington is probably the best QB on the team, if healthy.  Pennington has played in 44 games (37 starts) in his career and has put up good numbers when he plays.  Not too many quarterbacks can brag about having a career rating of 92.1, but Pennington can.  Pennington has completed an astounding 65.3% of his passes for his career, and has thrown 55 TDs against only 30 INT.

Patrick Ramsey has been brought over from the Redskins to compete for the starting job with Pennington.  Before you get too excited about Ramsey, remember, he couldn’t beat out the ancient Mark Brunell in Washington.  Ramseys’ numbers don’t glow like Penningtons’ but they’re not awful either.  Ramsey has completed 55.7% of his passes for his career, with 34 TD and 29 INT.  He has a career rating of 75.0.

The wildcard is the 2nd round pick of this years’ draft, Kellen Clemens from Oregon.  Clemens was projected to much later in the draft due to an injury in his senior season, but his stock improved as he proved he was healthy in pre-draft workouts.  Clemens has started 32 games his last three seasons at Oregon, passing for 7,354 yards with 59 TD and 23 INT.

In my final analysis, I think the adding of two quarterbacks shows a lack of faith in Pennington’s ability to stay healthy.  Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but I think Ramsey will be the starting QB when the Jets play the Titans on September 10th.
